Looking for a solid box mod under $100

So I'm in the market for a new box mod (or 2). I have a Kanger Subtank mini that I love, and I use the RBA with 0.5 ohm coils. I'm not totally new to vaping, but I'm no expert either.

I was using an eLeaf iStick 50w, which was ok i guess but crapped out on me recently, just like the one before it. I picked up a Smaug at a local shop, mostly because he gave me a good deal on it. But this thing is cryptic as hell and the manual is unreadable. The battery charge indicator seems inaccurate until it fires a few times and I'm still not sure how to reset the counter on it. So it's weird.

The thing I do like about the Smaug over the iStick is the time it takes to get a good vape. With the iStick I had to wait a few seconds before the thing would even get going, but with Smaug it's practically instantaneous on the same watt setting. Most of my vapes are around 3-4 seconds on it. Is that because of the higher wattage? I really don't know.

So I'm looking for another mod that is from a more trusted source. Do you have any recommendations for my tank?

Some good mods at that price point.
Myself and several here really like the Smoant Battlestar. Inexpensive, well built, and easy to use. Very compact and slick looking for a dual 18650 battery device, and there are several different color options.
Might be a good one to consider.

+1 on the Smoant Battlestar. Smoant also came out with a new mod called the Charon. I also really like the Ipv Vesta as well. Here on some write ups I've done on all three. Hope it helps you in your decision.

I was looking for a 2nd mod to serve as a backup unit. Didn't want to spend a lot of money. I went with the Aspire Archon. It's well under $100 and it does feel sort of cheap in your hand, but it has been very reliable. Actually it turned out to be more reliable than my #1, more expensive mod.

Wattage and how many batteries are huge here. You can easily get into a DNA 75 for $60ish. If that's enough wattage and you do Temperature Control, a great choice with a wealth of options. I always lean towards dual 18650's, but I vape higher power. Basically, I know I'm not recommending specifics, don't know if I can really, but you have a WEALTH of worthy options starting at half your budget, maybe less.

And tanks, I haven't found a better non rebuildable than the TFV8/12 series. Smok started making great tanks with the VCT and TCT Pro, and they really IMO have run with the market. I consider them the benchmark for comparing to something new.

You'll be able to get a good mod and tank for that budget. No doubt.

Alien kit by SMOK has been a good seller and won mod of the year for 2016. Could also consider something really simple, The SMOK vape pen 22 or the larger one with the baby beast tank on it. Just on or off no adjustments to play with, usb charges and the base is a battery and it's an awesome vape !

After staying up way too late last night watching review videos, I decided on the Smoant Charon and also the Knight V2 for around town. Looks like a decent kit that I could easily pocket and not also worry about popping the tank off when I sit down. I looked at some of the Smok mods too, which are all pretty great, but I have to admit that the Charon just looks sexier to me. Looks a lot like the Lostvape Therion, which I also really like, though it's a bit pricer.
