Welcome to the world of vaping.
Why do you feel you need to smoke, do you need the nicotine fix, social, or just need something to do to keep your finger busy?
I would suggest 0mg (no nicotine, just flavor) If you feel you need nicotine keep it low 3mg.

Welcome to VU and I hope you make the switch! Most of us end up liking vaping more than we ever liked smoking.....E-liquid comes with nicotine already in it or you can get it without nicotine, the choice is yours. Most of us start with nicotine in it and end up nicotine free or close to it as time goes on and depending on what type of tank we use.

A Nautilus Mini along with an Eleaf Istick is great beginners set up. They are fairly inexpensive and you get a lot of gear for your buck. The nice thing about the Istick series of mods is that the battery is charged by the same type USB wall charger as your cell phone so you don't have to worry about purchasing batteries and a charger separately. For a Nautilus Mini to start with as your first tank I would recommend the 30 watt version. There are several versions of the Istick and their model number is the amount of power they put out, they come in a 10 watt mini (which really isn't enough for a nautilus tank,) a 20 watt, a 30 watt, and a 50 watt. The reason they come in so many versions is different tanks require different amounts of wattage to power them. The 30 is a good start because the Nautilus tanks really only can be used in the 10-17 power watt range and I say get the 30 watt because it has a bigger battery than it's little siblings and if you want to upgrade to something like the Atlantis tank later you still have the option to set it to the higher power setting to power the coils that tank uses.

The E-liquid comes in many different strengths from 0 nic up to 36mg. The strength of the liquid is based on the amount of mg of nicotine per milaliter of E-liquid. Given that you are a fairly light smoker from the sounds of it I would suggest that you start with a 6mg strong liquid or maybe 12 at the absolute highest. However, this is just a recommendation. What I would do is go to a vape shop if you have one locally and try a couple flavors than by a small bottle of one you like in 3mg strength and one in 6mg. It takes your body longer to absorb nicotine from vaping than it does from regular cigarettes so you can vape on too strong of liquid for a few puffs and feel nothing than take one more and all the nic catches up and you can catch a nic buzz or even feel sick from too much nicotine too fast. After you've vaped a tank of each one you'll pretty much know which one is right or even if you need the next level stronger. Then go back to the shop and buy a bigger bottle of what suits your needs best. Most vape shops have a bunch of sample tanks to test different flavors out so you know what you're buying...and don't worry, they use disposable mouthpiece sleeves on the tank so you're not sharing germs with anyone :)

I encourage you to read up around here and look at different types of mods (the power unit of the vaping device) and tanks to make sure but an Eleaf Istick and a Nautilus mini is a solid starting point for anyone interested in vaping. I would recommend buying an extra pack of Nautilus BVC coils and spending the few extra bucks on the optional metal tank or the metal/glass version as well as the glass tank it has is somewhat fragile and most of us that use a Nautilus have broken the glass at least one :)

That is my recommendation for you, I can't tell you what to buy because everyone is different, but I think you'll like it if you do. Most of us that started with eGo vape pen types quickly upgraded, this way you're skipping that step and saving a couple bucks in the long run.

Eleaf Istick 30 watt
Aspire Nautilus mini
Optional Metal/Metal and glass replacement tank
Pack of Nautilus BVC replacement heads.

Simple list to get you off to a running start. I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck and hope you make the switch :)

Honestly iv been smoking since i was 19. I started out on camel wides and honestly it was stress .... Id rather smoke then drink and thats how i coped. And its still my vice and now that im 26 im thinking forward instead of in the moment and dont wana be smokin the rest of my life. So to answer ur question i guess it would be a nic fix to calm the nerves. But yeah i hear ya no nic is better but hard to go cold turkey so figured id bleed myself out.

That's how most of us do it - I started at 18 mg nic, sometimes as high as 24 mg to kill the smoking cravings - now I've been down at 3 mg for over 6 months and could probably kick the nic completely if I ever wanted or needed to.

Since you're such a light smoker (I'd burn your weekly cig allowance in a couple days and smoked twice as long), you might have good luck starting with 6 mg, maybe even 3 as @madmonkey suggests - worst case scenario you bump up to 12, and when you're ready you can taper down yourself.

I started vaping around 2 months ago. I started smoking at 15, I turn 53 tomorrow. I've got to say I haven't missed smoking much at all, I'm enjoying vaping which is good because I told myself it's vaping or nothing.

I have the Aspire Mini now, after using a some other one (a small pen thing) and it's great!
This is what I got <Aspire Nautilus Mini Starter Kit with CF VV+ 1000mah Battery> (typed that out because really I don't know much about them yet.. lolz)

I was smoking just over a packet a day, I started and have stayed on 12mg so far and I feel fine! I still reach for smokes sometimes but I guess that's pretty normal. I sure as hell will never go back to cigarettes.

12 mg is a bit low for a pack-a-day habit - you might consider getting a backup tank and filling it with some 18 mg juice to power through the tough cravings. But don't worry too much if you're still grabbing a smoke here and there - it took me a month to taper down from 15-20 a day to 3-4 before I finally quit for good.

As you can see we all have a story on how we started. I quit 13 months ago in one day. I was a pack to two pack a day smoker for over 50 years. I started with 24 mg and after one 30ml bottle went to 18mg, then 12, 6, and now at 3mg. I will say that vaping is a hell of a lot of better then smoking cigarettes. The biggest warning I can give you about vaping is, do learn about it by doing research. I read and looked at videos like crazy before I started and keep learning all the time.
Also watch out for that nice new shinny thing coming out tomorrow it will attract you so much and you have to fight the temptation.LOL

Before I switched to vaping I was down to 8mg cigs. I never had any tough cravings. And nope, not one cigarette has touched my lips =)
Cigs seem to be a lot more expensive here. It's $18 for a pack of 25. (don't know why I added that, there must of been a reason haha)

There really isn't as much choice in Australia for strength. I got my original batch from New Zealand (it's illegal to sell nicotine based juice in Australia, though we can import it ), and the choice is low, medium, high. I chose medium, so I suppose I'm only guessing that was 12mg. You can forget about VG-PG mix, there was no choice there.
The second lot I got was from the UK and I chose 12mg. Damn it was good, but way too expensive to use for perma-vaping. 10ml for umm around $20. It was that good I went through that in just over 2 days.

Third lot is definitely 12mg, no cravings, just habit reaching for smokes that aren't there.

I've placed an order for some juice from the USA now. I hope it doesn't taste like shit because I sort of stocked up a bit. (we can import 3 months supply though there's nothing to say what that is) Vapor Bomb. Please if their stuff is crap I don't want to know, it may make me cry tears of blood!!

If you only a pack and a half a week? (pretty low imo lol) I'd go with the 3 MG nicotine or 0 depending if you want nicotine or not.

Yea due to everyones feedback il probabily start on 3mg and if thats good then il stay with that for a bit and bleed off with a non nic juice inbetween. If its not enough il go to 6mg and work back down because i do increase my smoking at times. Thanx for the advice guys

No problem. Also depends on the strength of cigarettes you smoke. I was smoking lights for the past year which is probably around 6 MG (I believe). That's the level I have been using since I started vaping last week and really haven't had the urge to smoke a real cigarette since after a couple days.

I used to smoke the same as you, about a pack and a half a week the same brand too, then it started to move up to about 2 packs a weeks sometimes if it was a bad week for me, when I started vaping I first would get either 12mg or 18mg and I vaped that for awhile, then recently - about 2 weeks ago - I went to a shop and for the flavor I wanted they only had 6mg and honestly it is great for me, I usually chain vape and I don't get nic'd out or get a crazy buzz and not feel good. It's more to your personal needs. I would keep maybe a 12mg or 18mg bottle of a flavor you really like if the cravings get really bad.
Also the other day I tried my 6mg flavor on my friends RDA and whooo dog with only 1 'normal' hit I could feel the nic buzz right after. So it can also depend on what you are vaping with. If you do get a 30w and sub ohm then you might not need the 12mg or higher as a 6mg might do the job.

Before I quit I pretty much was smoking a pack a day. I started on Marlboro reds when I was 18 and switched to lights a little over a year ago. I'm 23 now. I think medium cigarettes like reds are the equivalent to 12 MG and lights are 6.

I smoked a pack a day for 40 years - ultra lights. I started on 18mg. If I'd started on less, I doubt I'd have been able to kick the habit the first time I picked up a throwaway ecig!

Started out on 30mg last year, but have gradually lowered my nic level and am ready to go down to 6mg. :)

I'm definitely glad I quit before I smoked too long, 5 years was too long lol

Smoked a pack a day for far too long! Started vaping a month ago, and have not touched one cigarette since! I Started out with the pen type and an evod tank at 12mg Nic. I outgrew that already and am now using the eleaf istick 50W, with the subtank nano at 0mg Nic. I am absolutely obsessed with this system and vaping!! I have some juice still with 3mg and 6mg, but I have not touched them in almost two weeks. But I like to keep them just in case I need them. (I doubt that I ever will) :D:)
