I see recipes using this I would probably like but every time I use it makes everything taste sour. Is that what it tastes like or do I have a bad bottle???

I have used it in several recipes and I wouldn't call it sour at all, however a little of it goes a long way. Maybe if you use too much it would give a sour taste, I don't know.

I went back through my recipe book and I have three recipes that use Cream Cheese Icing and the strongest I've ever used was 1% in one recipe, the other two used 0.5% and 0.25%. I would try a small test batch cutting the percentage by 1/3 to 1/2 and see how that comes out.

I didn't mix that one I just used it as a handy example but even at 0.5% I get sour that takes over the recipe.. Probably a bad bottle I'll just get another one and hope for the best.

I use it in 8 recipes, average 1%. I do have an old Red Velvet recipe that uses 4%, and it is slightly sour at that high of a ratio, but then real cream cheese is also slightly sour, so it's nothing unexpected. I would test it single flavor at 1 and 3 % (I'm a big believer in solo testing everything before trying to mix with it, even flavors you'd never consider vaping standalone), which will broaden your expectations of what it's going to do in a mix.

If you don't like it, FLV Frosting is a good sub. Roughly similar, but more on the thick, creamy vanilla side, and no "cheese". It's a much cleaner frosting, I actually prefer it, though LA Cream Cheese Icing is definitely useful, as it's a pretty unique flavor.

If I mixed this up all I would get is sour. Nothing but sour. Maybe I'll just spring for another bottle and hope for the best. What I have now came from BCF in Loranns bottle.

Your probably right (it's me) there are
fruit flavors that others love but I only taste chemicals. I think I'll try the FLV Frosting that @jambi suggested.

Thanks to all for the replies.

I have the same experience as you. I've tried it alone and at varying percentages but it doesn't taste good. I get a sour and chemical taste from it. I will check out the FLV Frosting mentioned above as I've been searching for an icing for a cinnamon roll juice.

I have a few recipes I use it in, but it wouldn't hurt my feeling if I dropped the bottle and it broke ... I wouldn't replace it.
It has a similar taste to yogurt.
