Louie returned to us with a shortened 8-episode season this year featuring our misery-magnet hero heavier and scruffier than usual. As usual, the show was a spiritedly awkward blend of neurosis and farce. Season 5 will never be considered the apex of the series, but it brought us some notably strong episodes like "Untitled" and "The Road Part 2," which, given the tight episode order, created a decent track record.
A prevalent theme this year was Louis CK himself, as creator and master of his own TV avatar's misfortune, turning his own bias on its head. Bits and routines that the comedian's widely known for in his standup (rants about millennials, fart joke comics, cell phone culture) found their way onto the screen. But Louie, despite his character's more-than-reasonable objections, was often placed in the wrong.
