"The Road Part 1" (Part 2 will air next week as the Season 5 finale) focused on the pains and peculiarities Louie now faces as an aging comedian who no longer enjoys leaving his home base to do "away game" gigs in other states. The expectations of sociability, the shady living conditions, the hassle of travel - it was all addressed here as our hero occasionally pulled some prime pieces from his established standup bits ("Jizzybuns," for example).
Nothing was at stake here story-wise, but if you were looking for an endless supply of frustrations, a busy cross-country travel schedule is hard to beat. It's ripe with awkward situations and can unfold like a series of sketches. Like, for example, dealing with an overly-sensative driver (Devin Ratray, Buzz from Home Alone!) who wanted nothing more than to hear New York City described as a vast, sprwawling dreamland where impossibilities unfold on a daily basis. A poor man-child who wound up silently weeping (very funny!) after Louie got fed up with hearing about how awesome and friendly all the other comedians were when he drove them around.
