Mark Zuckerberg has given a first look at Meta's Project Cambria virtual reality headset without actually showing it.
Shared in a Facebook post, we do get a good look at the headset's augmented reality system, or mixed reality as Meta is calling it, but any shot of the headset itself is blurred.
Regardless, it's the first time the company has shown the headset after Zuckerberg revealed it would be a work-focused device, unlike the company's Meta Quest (previously Oculus Quest) VR headset.
The minute-long clip shows the device being used to play with a virtual pet similar to Pokémon GO's augmented reality, browsing on a virtual computer, and working out with a virtual fitness trainer.
Zuckerberg also announced that Meta would be releasing a software development tool called Presence Platform soon so that developers can begin working on augmented reality experiences for use in Cambria.
The device will allegedly be one of four VR headsets released by Meta in the next two years, with two, including Cambria, being work focused and the others being for games. Though we're yet to see the latter, Meta held a gaming showcase in April that made clear the company is still pursuing a more traditional gaming route.
Ghostbusters VR and Resident Evil 4 - The Mercenaries VR were both announced for the platform alongside new virtual reality games based on Among Us, The Walking Dead, and the NFL. For those seeking even more immersion, scientists recently invented mouth haptics for use VR which allow users to feel different virtual experiences with their mouths.
