Marquis?

Hey, so I'm looking for a good Marquis clone. I've seen the Fast Tech one, but I've seen enough bad press on that one. Does anyone know of a better one out there, or if Infinite or EHPro has one in the works?

With clones, i rely on Infinite and Tobeco. Both make top notch attys. The Tugboat V2 clone i have (Tobeco) is absolutely identical in comparison to my authentic. Not even a 0.1mm difference. Only difference really is the serial number :D Same thing with the Magma.

I see Tobeco has a Marquis out. Might pick that up. I'll let you know how it works.

Also, I have a, "Steamboat," which is a Tugboat V2 1:1 exactly with the VIN number filed off. It works pretty damn well.

Yeah, heard good things about the Steamboat. If my memory serves me well it was manufactured by SXK, the same company Infinite uses.

Good to know that that's what Infinite uses. I saw some people thinking that renaming the RDA was a little shady, but I actually think it's not that bad a thing. I mean, no one can pass a Steamboat off as an authentic Tugboat, but I could pass my Infinite Tobh V2 off as an authentic Tobh V2.

I just got the tobeco marquis clone last week. Pretty decent quality, the the air holes may need some filing for the rods to slide in. Only matters if you are tying to do the horizontal type chiney coil. I just did the vertical coils and it worked fine. Awesome flavor and pretty easy to build. Needs to be cleaned thoroughly in an ultrasonic or something. Hasn't leaked at all yet either.

Overall I'm very happy with it for the $20 or so dollars.

@Number3124 Yeah, i think so too. 1:1 clones are fine if they can't be mistaken for an authentic.

@DustinB Good to know. Thanks for the rec. I'll probably be soaking it in vinegar for a good half hour then.

@Rommel Being able to mistake a 1:1 for an authentic won't deter me from buying, but I do think it's a little sleazy. Then again, it does seem to be standard practice at the moment so oh well.

I have the Fasttech one too. It came in Friday. With FT attys I always drop them in boiling water to clean out any oil or metal leavings.

I have no complaints. Though I will second zolt's comment about the proper center post screw being in the goody bag rather than in the post.

I also got one on Fastech but got this one: https://www.fasttech.com/p/2056506

Works well, has the correct center post screw and, like the others, stunk to high heaven with machine oil out of the box. An ultrasonic cleaning was essential before use.

I've been enjoying the performance of the clone so much that I'm getting the authentic when the second batch comes out in a few days (hopefully).

I had forgotten they had more than one. That's the one I got. Oddly the box it comes in isn't as nice as the cheaper one.

Interesting, when I bought it, mine was the expensive one!

Just my $.02, have this one: https://www.fasttech.com/products/2044802 and it's pretty much perfect, apart from the awful machine oil smell. Note that you get the right center post screw with it, but it's in the bag of goodies for some reason.
Got the same one.
I did notice that one of the air holes is slightly smaller then the other, maybe 2.49 mm.
Other then that got no complaints.

I just received my Marquis by Tobeco yesterday. I am very pleased with it overall, but there is one big issue im having. The top cap fits SUPER tight. I mean you can't budge this thing or pull it off without pliers and/or a vice. It is so annoying. I tore up my fingers and hands yesterday getting my first build in, which I am very happy with, but that top cap isn't going anywhere. If I tried to pull it off while on my mod, I would be afraid I was going to pull my 510 connection out or damage the threads badly. Does anyone have any suggestions with this? When I say tight, I mean that it is flawed somewhere, it doesn't just fit tight, I literally used a mallet to get the thing on for the first time.

Other than that the "M" engraving is pretty sloppy, but I uaed some auper fine steel wool and it looks awesome now.

Use your sandpaper on the inside of the barrel, maybe you have some burrs in there.

Try removing both the o-rings on the base. If you still have to struggle to get the cap on/off without any o-rings installed, it's a machining issue on the cap and/or base. I've had a couple of annys where the cap is a bit out of round -- some sandpaper and a bit of time can fix it. If, however, it slips on/off easily without the o-rings, just need to replace the o-rings with thinner ones, or try it with just one installed. From your description, it sounds more like a machining issue.

I second Hazozita. Mine (FT) was also extremely tight and it WAS a machining issue. I used some wet carborundum cloth to sand the inside of the bell and a little around the base and now it's perfect with 2 O-rings.

Appreciate the advice guys, and the problem has been fixed. I definitely though it was a machining issue, it was metal against meta tight, but I swapped o rings with the spare ones that came with it and it solved the problem. I really have no idea how, the original o rings were getting torn to shreds from me trying to get the top cap on and off. Maybe getting a build in it and having the top cap on for 24 hours loosened something up? Or maybe the o ring change was all that was needed. Either way, it slides on pretty easily now but is snug, the tolerance is about perfect.

With that being said, I really like this RDA. Great flavor and decent vapor, practically leak proof, and i think it looks pretty slick with its simplistic outer design. Even though building on it is definitely not any easier with the rods, you have to actually change the direction you wrap your coils for each one so that the leads are in the right spot, and wicking can be difficult as well.

JohnDoses -- take a look at the video below from Dino (one of the makers of the Marquis). I've found his wicking technique is super easy and works great, although I omit the extra piece of cotton in the well. Wicking starts at about the 25 min point.

I was so impressed with the clone that I bought the original. The better machining on the original does make it easier to build than the clone. The rods fit better and are a lot more effective in positioning the coil. But, the clone gives 80% of the value for 20% of the price.
