The Hollywood Reporter reports that Marvel has struck a deal with the Stan Lee Universe “to license the name and likeness of Lee for use in future feature films and television productions, as well as Disney theme parks, various ‘experiences’ and merchandising.” Stan Lee Universe is a joint venture between Genius Brands and POW! Entertainment.

Despite his passing in 2018, Stan Lee’s legacy has continued to live on thanks to his contributions to the world of comics and superheroes. This twenty-year deal ensures we won’t forget about the legend anytime soon. Lee, who was the writer and editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics in the 1960s, helped create a number of superheroes we know and love today.

He would eventually become known for his joyful and smiling persona in the public eye alongside his talents and contributions to Marvel. Throughout his career, he’d film thirty-seven cameos in various Marvel films. From Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to The Hulk, eagle-eyed fans were always eager to find Lee. His final appearances were in Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel.

This deal gives Marvel a number of permissions regarding Lee, including the use of “Lee’s name, voice, likeness and signature in movies and television projects, as well as to use images, existing footage and existing audio recordings featuring him."

While it’s possible he could cameo in future Marvel films, this deal doesn’t guarantee it. The Hollywood Reporter writes “this new deal does not necessarily pave the way for the return of Lee cameos in movies.” At the very least, Lee could be featured as an action figure, on t-shirts or even intergrated into theme park rides.

If you're a fan of all things Marvel, be sure to check out the new trailer for their upcoming show She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
