After years of uncertainty, a new live-action Masters of the Universe movie is on its way to Netflix, with Kyle Allen set to take on the role of He-Man.

Netflix is partnering with Mattel to produce the new movie, with the Nee Brothers serving as co-directors. The script is being produced by the Nees and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings writer David Callaham.

The new film's story will focus on He-Man, also known as Adam, an orphan "discovers he is a prince destined to be the savior of a faraway land." He must "quickly learn of his power and the importance of saving his true home from an evil force." In short, it sounds a lot like an origin story.

The new live-action Masters of the Universe movie has been rumored since at least 2003, with John Woo set to direct. Sony eventually acquired the rights, but had little success getting a new movie off the ground.

In 2021, Netflix released Masters of the Universe: Revelation, a new series featuring Kevin Smith and Mark Hamill. A more family-friendly CG show titled He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is also streaming on the service.

Masters of the Universe last appeared in live-action in 1987, with Dolph Lundgren playing the role of He-Man. It was critically panned, but it has since developed a cult following.

Netflix new Masters of the Universe movie will begin production in summer 2022. It does not have a release date yet. While you wait, check out this Epic Castle Grayskull playset, which is a "true blast from the past."
