Mech mod suggestions?

Ok, I originally thought the idea of mech mods to be perfect....a device that has little chance to fail, and if there is a problem, it can be easily fixed for a mechanically inclined person.

After many mechs, I moved on to variable box mods (raptor box, sigelei 150, and snow wolf). I've used all these more than any of my mechs as they tend to be less problematic, but would like to have at least one problem free mech...to have a nice sized, high power set up that is reliable.

I've mostly had clones and lower cost originals. I like a warm flavorful vape so I tend towards lower ohm builds... .1-.2. I dislike locking rings, so for safety I prefer recessed buttons and also smaller sized mods(but still 18650).

Alot of buttons seem to get finnicky, and all seem to develop hot button. I have panzer clone, smok fury, manhattan clone, mutation x v1, crown (local shop's original through indulgence) Rig v1 clone, 2 smpl clones.

Any suggestions? Also I'm tired of polishing copper, so probably leaning towards stainless and possibly aluminum.

I've heard the limitless is nice and also the hitman, but don't think i could pay the 200 for the hitman.

As far as not wanting to use a lock ring, you can buy a mod with a lock ring and either make your own spring, or switch to magnets. I made my own spring. I got the idea from another member here. Grab a piece of coax cable and strip out the core wire. I did it using a razor blade to cut and peel off everything around the core wire. The core wire is heavy gauge copper wire. Now what I did was, I took a small flathead screwdriver with a plastic handle. I grabbed my drill and put a small hole in the end of the handle, and used that hole to hold one end of the wire while I wrapped the spring. Spring came out pretty nice, and works much better than the stock spring. I was having crunchy buttons and misfiring, and the new spring solved all those problems. The best part is, I can stand my mod upright without using the lock ring, and it absolutely will not fire on its own. Now, if I put it in a case to carry it, I'd probably use the lock ring then. I thought about buying magnets myself, but they're fragile and can break, plus I already had some coax cable laying around the house that isn't being used, so it didn't cost me anything.

I'll try the coax spring. Love the smpl, but eventually developed hot button. I try to keep all the copper and brass clean, but after the button heats up enough, it heats the spring and loses it "spring".

I've tried replacing the spring with hardware store spring but still have hot button issues.

The smpls I have are a-mod clones, a copper and a stainless.

I use a Tantra mod, in S-S, bought for about 80 sum-odd bucks online. made here, decent machinework, lots of conductivity, and fat contact points. Take it apart once and a while, clean the parts, polish the contacts with an old-style ink eraser, and Bob's yer Uncle. When funds permit, the naval brass one's mine.

My favorite authentic is the Colonial. The button is aces. And the clone is excellent, btw, but I use the authentic. I have quite few Philippine made tube and box mods as well. But I love the Colonial. I also have SMPLs which are great - I just changed the springs on all of them as they did tend to get hot.

You have some really mods already. I could suggest any number of other nice mods but I'm sure you will love the Colonial. I have a twisted on top of mine and actually have been vaping on it most of the night. I just put it down. Also the mod is the lightest tube I have ever owned. So best button and lightest tube makes a pretty good combo.

"Loaded Springs" make mech mod springs and they have one for the SMPL. My stainless, $18 fasttech SMPL has never given me any problems. I love the thing. Sounds like yours maybe just has a shit spring. Loaded Springs might solve your SMPL issues. Good luck.

The Flagship. I have one and it's amazing, probably the best mech out there for the price. It's an authentic copper mod (no one has cloned it, yet), has an adjustable delrin ring to eliminate battery rattle, and a floating connector pin to make sure any atty or tank will fit flush on it. I know you said you didn't want copper, but this mod is amazing and it's been my only setup for a while now. You can them on vapingcheap.com for $42. Oh, and a .15 voltage drop. Hits like a champ.
