MediaTek Unveils a Deca-Core Processor

Taiwanese manufacturer MediaTek has unveiled the Helio X20, its deca-core mobile processor.

The ten cores are split up into three clusters. A dual-core handles the most intensive tasks, backed up by two quad-cores that handle everything else.

MediaTek claims that setting it up this way can save 30 percent on battery life, because if only one cluster is engaged then the others can power down until needed.

The Helio X20 will launch in December 2015, and is designed to be put in the most high-end of smartphones. On the other end of the scale, CHIP costs just $9, and has beaten the Raspberry Pi as one of the cheapest computers in the world.
