We already knew that Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight will encounter Egyptian God of the Moon, Khonshu – but now we know the deity will be voiced by F. Murray Abraham.

Khonshu appeared very briefly in a recent Moon Knight trailer – haunting Isaac’s weirdly-British hero in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, and it looks as though F. Murray Abraham will voice the old God.

A gallery of new images released by Disney gives us a closer look at some of the best moments in the Moon Knight trailer. That quick glimpse of Khonsou reveals Abraham is the voice of the Egyptian god.

F. Murray Abraham is perhaps best known for his Oscar-winning performance as Antonio Salieri in Amadeus, and recently starred in the Wes Anderson film, The Grand Budapest Hotel. He's also renowned for his TV work, including a recurring role in Homeland. One of his defining features is his deep, rich voice, so he should make for an appropriately deific presence.

Khonshu is often depicted as a falcon in Egyptian hieroglyphics, which ties nicely to the Moon Knight’s trailer with his long beak and a rather sinister look. The MCU version is a big part of the hero’s backstory – making a deal with mercenary Marc Spector, an alter ego of Oscar Isacc’s mild-mannered gift shop employee, Steven Grant.

But it’s a bit more complicated than that, as Steven Grant suffers from dissociative identity disorder, essentially sharing a body with Marc Spector.

“The story follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life,” says Moon Knight’s official synopsis. “Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.”

Marvel boss Kevin Feige recently described Moon Knight as ‘brutal’ insisting that Marvel isn’t holding back from the darker subject matter. Additionally, the Batman-like hero won’t just be a Marvel version of the Dark Knight which he is often compared to in the comics.

Moon Knight stars Oscar Isaac in the lead role alongside Ethan Hawke, Gaspard Ulliel, May Calamawy, Lucy Thackeray, and F Abraham Murray.
