Mortal Kombat 2: Movie Sequel Is Moving Ahead With the Moon Knight Writer

New Line is ready to test its might with Mortal Kombat 2, a sequel to the live-action adaptation released earlier this year.



Deadline reports that the new movie will be written by Jeremy Slater, who is also the head writer of Marvel's Moon Knight series. It's primed to pick up from the last movie, which proved to be a pandemic era hit, opening at number one in the box office and ranking among HBO Max's top films.


The first movie in the series was defined by self-aware humor, excellent action scenes, and what our review called "some gnarly fatalities." It proved a hit with fans of the series, who still look back fondly on the version released back in the 90s.


In the meantime, Moon Knight is preparing to released on March 30 on Disney Plus. An official trailer dropped last week, and a synopsis is also available.



Mortal Kombat 2 does not yet have a release date, but while you wait, you can check out all of the easter eggs and references from the first movie.
