If you enjoyed Craig Robinson in This Is the End, Hot Tub Time Machine or The Office, then steer clear of his new sitcom Mr. Robinson because it is nothing like any of those things. Plagued by comedy tropes, one-note characters and a groan-inducing laugh track, NBC's latest foray into the multi-camera game is an embarrassment for all involved, especially Robinson. One might even argue this series marks a new low for him. (Granted, I never saw Rapture-Palooza.)
The series stars Robinson as a wannabe rockstar who takes a job as a substitute high-school music teacher in order to make ends meet. (Think School of Rock, but not funny.) However, the real reason he's there is to get closer to an old flame of his, Victoria (Meagan Good, who's already moved on to FOX's fall series, Minority Report), who also teaches at the school. The results are surprisingly (well, not that surprisingly) terrible, as the viewer is bombarded with trite jokes and after-school special-level storytelling.
