I can tell you about the XV4 if I want to chug clouds I use the top side holes for air entry and close off the bottom side. Also if I'm looking for flavor I'm doing oposite open the bottom close the side, overall is a great performer for the money. It's not competition performance but it's a great RDA to have. That is my 5 cents on I have it fist 100 batch n I love it. Hope this helps you

I bought an x4 this afternoon. First RDA but I've been building on a Subtank Mini for over a month (legit daily). I can't really figure out the appeal of this thing. I'm trying to like it. It's messy, it throws good clouds, I am running dual 24g coil .3ohms at 50w. Ramp up time seems too slow for me but I don't usually run dual coils on my Mini. Wicked it decent for a first timer. Airflow is like just breathing in, no resistance at all. Seems leaky to me. I am not super good at the dripping skills yet.

Hello Lori!

I'm extremely new to the forums (been lurking for a long time) so this is my first post lol. I'm almost in the same boat as CloudySkies but my experience with the Mutation X V4 is different. I bought one last Thursday, its my first RDA but I've owned a Sub Tank Mini for the last few months and also own an Orchid V7 Clone RTA. Sub Tank got me into rebuilding, and I wanted a tank that was strictly an RTA (no prebuilt coils available for it), so then I bought an Orchid.

Fast forward a week after I got the Orchid, and I bought a Mutation X V4 from a recommendation of a friend that works at a vape shop where I'm from. Basically I was after quality of vapor and I've always heard that an RDA was the way to go. Since I got an xpro m80 plus, I thought I'd dive into the RDA scene (dripping was something I never wanted to do... glad I was wrong). So far I've done 3 builds on the Mutation and I love it! I haven't used my Orchid tank since I got my Mutation.

My experience is different from CloudySkies, I love the airflow the Mutation has as I vape at 50w on .4 ohm dual coils. Mine doesn't leak but I'm also careful about how I drip juice into the RDA, and I also use 100% VG (that might be the difference right there). I love the vapor production and flavor off of this atomizer. I use my tank only for back up situations, or for when I can't drip.

Looking to replace my Orchid V7 with a SilverPlay V2 from VaporDNA as it has more airflow options. I like an airy draw when it comes down to it. I can't speak for the Mutation XS, but the X V4 is phenomenal.

Just want to add that I wasn't downplaying CloudySkies as I do know there are some who experience leaking with the Mutation X V4. You just have to be mindful when you drip on the wick that you carefully "paint" the juice on to the wick. Or, use a needle point bottle and fill the juice wells real good.

Ren, my issue was the juice. Because I only used tanks all my juice was 50/50 with a few at 70VG. I also was taking the top piece off every time I needed to drip rather than dripping through the mouthpiece, which is now my preferred method. Its cur down on the mess considerably. I also had an issue with limitations of my mod, it being maxed out at 50w and limited to .2ohms. I went to my local Vape Store today and spoke with them about my issues and me not being able to fall in love with the dripping because I couldn't build a dual coil that would ramp up fast enough for my liking. They turned me on to Nichrome. I went home earlier today and wrapped a few coils up and noticed that it has a higher resistance for the same amount of wraps, therefore I could throw in say an 8 wrap ID:3mm and it would ohm out to .4 as opposed to me wrapping up a huge 24g kanthal dual coil which took forever to ramp up and had very little resistance. Basically the Nichrome gets hotter faster than kanthal. It saved me from having to buy a new mod to power a dual coil build and saved me from running that build at 50w killing my batteries quickly. I now get the same ramp up as 50w Kanthal build with more surface area and faster ramp up time at 30-35w on my Nichrome build. So for my single coil Subtank Mini, Kanthal is the way to go. For my mutation x, its Nichrome all the way.

Nice! I too drip the way you do with the Mutation. I pop off the top cap and carefully drip where I want it to be. I will get a mess if I drip too much or some lands in the airholes but go figure lol. Thats very cool on the Nichrome build, I need to grab some of that wire and test it out with my Xpro m80. Right now I run 26 gauge kanthal, 6-7 wraps, dual coil, and it ohm's out to .38. I run it between 40-50w depending on the juice flavor I have in there (all my juice is 100% vg from velvet cloud).

I have chronic bronchitis and currently recovering from that, sure is nice as the symptoms are starting to go away. I've actually used the mutation exclusively for the past week and don't see myself going to my tank anytime soon lol...

I also didn't like 24g wire. It just took too long to ramp up for me and I don't like to take long draws. 26g at around .3-.4 ohm at 45-50w is my sweet spot with this rda.

ren: if you are looking for a great rta I can reccomend 2 fantastic dual coil rta's the epoch d1 and the cthulhu, both are top fill, both have great air flow and great vapor production.. I run both with dual 7 wrap 2.5mm ID 30g ni200 .062-.065 ohm 420deg 50j on my ipv4
I got the cthulhu first but grabbed the epoch when I discovered I am not a great fan of hex head grub screws :)

For ramp up time, you can try parallel builds....either dual, triple, or quad.
Parallel builds actually have the same issue, it's literally the amount of material you have to heat up that is the factor. The more wire, the longer it takes to heat that material up, doesn't matter how you do it, twisted, parallel, doesn't matter. Trust me, I've tried everything and Steam Engine offers a pretty good idea of how a setup will work.

Nichrome actually has a MUCH lower resistance than kanthal, hence why it heats up faster. You're probably gonna want to look into a device that fires above 50W if you wanna take better advantage of that RDA and nichrome :p
