Hi and welcome- sorry about your problem with the Cuboid- I do not own this device and maybe someone can help! I always charge my external 18650 batteries in a separate charger, not by the USB port. I have never had any batteries overheat like that- maybe a problem with the mod- maybe juice go into the panel?
What batteries do you use? Could be bad batteries?
I use Samsung 25r and LG HE4 and LG HG2 batteries that I buy from trusted sites

You are in the US?
these sites are good to get your batteries from-
liionwholesale.com
illumn.com

is this the site you used for your batteries-
http://www.vapinusa.com/mod-batteries/
Did you get your mod from here? When did you get it? I would write them an email and explain what happened-
Something is definately wrong, but I do not know the answer! It could be the Mod or the batteries, batteries should not make noise or get that hot! Could be the batteries and now they fried your mod.

It sounds like you have permanent damage to the mod. I would not try to use it anymore. As for batteries, I recommend both of the sites that @SnapDragon NY listed, they are both proven vendors with authentic products, no clones. I don't know anything about vapinusa.

Good luck!
