Hey everyone! I have decided I am going to journal my work on what is BY FAR my most ambitious, and exciting, attempt at making a recipe. I guess I just thought it would help me work through this process, and maybe could be a good resource for a newer diy'er who is starting to make the jump from mixing recipes to making recipes (more of a what not to do tutorial I'm guessing lol). Also, if you have any advice, suggestions or any input at all PLEASE SHARE! I have been mixing since last October but do to work I have very little experience making my own concoctions.
The recipe I am going to be working on here is going to be a Strawberry Flan flavor. It will have caramel as well, as a good flan should. This juice is most definitely inspired by Blends by Bryce's Strawberry Creme Flan juice, which is my all time favorite juice, but is IN NO WAY a clone attempt. I haven't had this juice since at least October, I miss it, and want to scratch the itch without plunking down the $. (Hard to justify my diy expenses to my girl if I'm spending $ on vendor juice haha!)
Flan is somewhat similar to custard in taste and texture, much less eggy but the feel/taste is there. The ingredients are eggs, milk, sugar, salt, vanilla, caramel and strawberries.
To start out I will be using these flavors (I'm sure this list will change a lot, just a starting point)
THE BASE
CAP Vanilla Custard - this is where the egg flavor will come from, as well as some of the creaminess and some of the vanilla
TFA Sweet Cream - I love this stuff. This I will use a small amount of to supplement the creaminess and I also think it helps with mouth feel
TFA Vanilla Swirl - I think this will be the perfect vanilla. Just a touch, because I want to keep the CAP VC low enough to not cut through the mix
THE TOPPING
FW Salted Caramel - a very very good caramel flavor. It is not really useable as a pure caramel though because there is a distinguished saltiness to it. Not useful in many recipes but perfect for this
FA Caramel - this will be used in a low amount primarily because I fear that the salted caramel would contribute too much salt flavor if used at a high enough % reach the desired strength of caramel flavor. May get left out.
CAP Sweet Strawberry - my favorite strawberry flavor, nuff said
TFA Strawberry Ripe - I will use a small amount of this to add the sharp/tart strawberry notes that fresh strawberries have. It will help the strawberry not be muddled in the mix, as it's important they stand out in this.
Maybes include TFA marshmallow and/or sucralose. Sweetness and mouthfeel will be the finishing touches.
All right, here is my starting point. I have a couple things to mix right now but I will follow this post up tonight with the percentages of my 1st mix and initial thoughts
Wish me luck!
