New Subtank Mini flooding

My Subtank Mini is flooding/spitting for a couple hits after I fill the tank.

For the first two weeks I had absolutely no problems whatsoever with this tank. It's the only one I have and its the new style Subtank Mini that came with my Subox. First two weeks with the .5 ohm OCC that came already installed in the tank had no spitting or flooding regardless of what level I filled the tank to. Whether I filled to the top of the painted section of the tube or just below the very tip-top of the tube it never flooded.

As soon as I replaced the coil, about 4 days ago, I started noticing that it'd flood every time I fill the tank. It makes no difference what level I fill it to, but if I fill it "full" (up to just below the top of the tube) it'll flood and spit for like 4-6 hits, and if I fill it just below the end of the paint on the tube it only floods and spits for a couple hits.

Either way it's annoying as hell. I'm probably only getting slightly over 1/2 of the 4.5ml capacity of juice, which makes me have to fill twice a day to maintain the juice over the coil (I'm not using 4.5mls a day, but you wouldn't judge either way).

I'm contemplating swapping in another coil or popping in the RTA deck that I built with the stuff that came with the Subtank.

Aside from that, is there something I'm doing wrong or do I have a bum coil?

Just want to add that as soon as the initial flooding/spitting gets cleared out it doesn't do it again until I refill the tank. It's sat for up to 12 hours after clearing out and being "full" and doesn't re-flood.

Only thing I can think of is maybe your missing a gasket on your new coil or it's not screwed down tight in the base..sorry couldn't help more, good luck

I thought of that, but I'm guessing it would flood more than just after filling if it wasn't screwed down into the base all the way. I've also read that people get wonky ohm readings if it isn't screwed all the way down and I always get a consistent reading.

I'm going to take a look and re-disassemble right now.

Seals are intact.
Coil is snug in the base

Removed the coil and pulled a TINY piece of cotton out of the bottom o-ring. Reassembled and refilled and got the flood and spit just like before.

Also just checked the QR code for authenticity and these coils are 100% genuine Kanger.

Just put the RTA in. I built it with the coil it came with and it's at .6 ohms on the box.

Refilled the tank and there's no spitting or flooding at all.

It does have a slight cotton-y taste, which I wasn't expecting, but I'm guessing that'll go away.

So, I just ordered some 26g kanthal and a 20 pack of organic cotton and I'm jumping into this head-first.

I'm assuming 26g is what the coil I have is because I put the info into Steam Engine and got about exactly what I have. It said to get .6 ohms on 26g kanthal it'd be a 5 wrap coil at 2.6mm. It's loose on the 2mm jig I have (which I was sent by mistake instead of the 2.6mm), but not 3mm loose.

After using the Subtank's RBA for about 8 hours I do have to say that I agree with the people that say the Subtank's RBA is much more restricted than the OCC.

I think I'll also have to re-wick and get a bit looser on the cotton. I'm not getting full-on burnt hits, but every now and then I get a slight burnt taste. I know there's a learning curve to making these things and I need to get it down.

sorry to hear about the issue...I just recieved mine(along with an Eleaf 100W) and have been enjoying it ever since. The only thing that comes to mine regarding this would be the o-rings. another would be the glass tank itself, may have a small crack unnoticed to the naked eye. have you tried using the accompying glass replacement to see?...hope you work it out...
