New to DIY PERFUMY TASTE

I'm new to the whole diy scene. The one thing i've noticed is my fruit flavor juices im mixing are coming up very perfumy and its driving me crazy. The majority of the flavors i have are from FA but also have some CAP TPA LA. Can someone please help me with this its really getting frustrating. But ive made some carmel and cream juices that are fine. Last I follow the recipes Ive found but mix at max level that I can achieve. Oh i get most of my recipes from e-liquid-recipes.com.

well what specific flavors are you using and at what percentages

FA is very concentrated
most recipes use 1-4% of a FA flavor
if you go above that- you will often get perfume or floral flavors

for example i love fa White Peach
I use it at 2-3%
if i were to use say 5% its very floral tasting and nasty

thanks for that info, will defentily follow that. What do you do if the recipe calls for 5% or higher do you just adjust to stay around that 3% mark

Maybe you should try each flavoring by itself, starting at 2%. Then you would know if you need more or less of that one. Most of us started that way, because we all have our preferences. Then think about combining flavors. Matt is correct, too much flavoring can get perfumy.

ok
if your following a recipe that call for say
cap mango at 8% or TFA Mango at 9% or what have you....
and your SUBSTITUTING FA Mango - YOU WOULDNOT use 8%FA mango
every brand is concentrated differently and tastes different.
Now I would say you did great getting FA fruit flavors. IMHO FA has the most realistic fruit flavors.

As standalone flavors FA is generally good for most people in a 3% range
when you are combining it with other flavors 1-2% is good. certain flavors go down to .25%or .5% depending on recipes

if you are trying to make your own recipes with FA flavors
start with each flavor you think you want in it and test it seperately, finding the right % fo rit by itself for you AND MAKE NOTES.
then start with one main flavor about 1% lower then its stand alon e% and add a second flavor at 1%
if its good add a third flavor at 1%
of not
decide which flavor you need more of and retry it

and keep going that way

go to our diy recipe section and read recipes and the notes people make about them to get an idea of what can work well together and APPROXIMATE % of flavors

one note
FA MANGO is POWERFUL
stand alone 1.5% is good for me
when i use it in my ADV whic is a creamy vanilla peach mango i us eit like this
ALL FA Flavors
3% white peach
2% peach
1% mango
1% fresh cream
1% vanilla (any of the 3 FA ones)

I find the a lot of the recipies on e-liquidrecipies are great starting points but can sometimes be way off or designed for that one persons taste. I of course never get mad since someone else is sharing their hard work and creativity. Some of my recipies and adjustments I know others would not enjoy but I personally love. So, when I start setting up a recipie from someone else I start looking at other things like flavor reviews, average mixing percentages for stand alone flavor and in a full recpie.

When in doubt I start lower on a flavor percentage and if it's not strong enough I add more of one flavor or another until I get close to the desired result. Take notes along the way. Then when you mix the recpie again make your adjustments based on your notes.

Great advice in the above posts, besides getting a handle on all of your flavors to not be mixing at percentages that are too high I usually like a little cream in my fruit mixes. Not enough to where it is a noticeable fruit cream but just a little to take the edge off the fruits. Also a sweetener like marshmallow or meringue or take your pick from the many flavors that can add sweet and smooth a mix out.

I know you like the White Peach. But I'm simply amazed you (and others) can use it at those percentages. I will have White peach for the next 10 years it seems (I have 4 ounces), and I can't seem to use it any higher than .3% before I get the chemical taste.

Meh, that's why we call it DIY :/

wow. at 0.3% i would barely taste it in a mix. it might be because its WHITE peach and a white peach has a much different taste then regular peach, so its that difference you just dont like? No clue, but this is the joy of DIY, cater to your own taste. And its good for noobs to see that whole a majority may agree on stuff, not everyone agrees and tastes vary.

I can't do White Peach as a stand alone, at any percentage. :( And I really love Peach. I actually have to dilute it ( at .3%) with 2 other flavors, to mellow it out. I can't taste the other 2 flavors, but the Peach just screams at me. It took me several months of experimenting to get to that. But I'm happy with it now :D
