I've been vaping for about a year now. Have my first mech (smpl clone) coming this week. I have two mxjo I was planning to use for it. Are these a good choice? I usually build around. .2-.3

Should be okay with those batteries. How ever you will find that the mechanical mods will drain your batteries extremely fast. What RDA are you using? I need about 4 batteries to get through the day, but it depends on how often you will be vaping. I suggest getting a better mod down the road. A lot of people do not want to spend over 100$ but it is well worth it.

If I'm not mistaken, those batteries have a max. continuous discharge rate of 20A only. That means, it's not recommended to use them with a 0.2 Ohm coil. A 0.3 Ohm coil might work. However, I wouldn't trust those batteries at all. I'm using Sony VTC4 batteries only for all of my mech mods.
I'm getting my batteries from http://liionwholesale.com. Reliable and fast shipping.
In addition, since you're getting a hybrid mech mod, watch the following video, for your own safety.

I got the mod today along with some Sony vtc4s. Put a .22 build on it which steam engine said should be around 80watts 19 amps. it definitely doesn't feel like I'm getting 80 watts. I vape my regulated mods around 80 watts and this seems like a much cooler vape then on my regulated mods. Should I be building lower or is it because it's a cheap clone and doesn't perform properly

You're not getting what you calculate out at 4.2v. No battery kicks out 4.2v under load. And in fact, the more current you pull, the more sag the battery will have. Depending on the battery and the build, you may see a drop low enough to put you at 3.6v. That's gonna be your lower ballpark estimate.

It's not necessarily about building lower to squeeze more power out. It's about the balance of power to mass. You have to build a coil that gets the power it needs for the size that it is. It takes a bit more trial and error than on a regulated box.

I have dual fused claptons 2.4mm 5 wraps .22. Would I be better off with a different build?

Yes, absolutely. No wonder you're underwhelmed! Claptons, especially the larger fused claptons require too much power per unit of mass. They need a voltage push that a mech can't adequately provide. If you must use claptons, then stick with 26g or thinner for the core and something really fine like 36g for the outer.

At that resistance range, you would see better results from dual 24's or 22's, though I wouldn't call that a hot vape. Dual 22's at .18 can get up there. You could also go up to .28 with dual parallel 28's or a little below .2 with dual triple parallel 28's for something a little hotter. There's always twisted 28 or 26, too.
