New to vaping, need some advice (subtank mini)

I've been a smoker since I was 16, I'm 22 now and I'm sick of it. My current set up is an Eleaf iStick 30W and a Kangertech Subtank Mini. As I'm fairly new to this, that set up is what my local vape store recommended. For the e liquid, I use VIP special blends.

The first time I used it, the guy at the shop had it set at 15 watts on max air flow. I was used to low watt pen vapes so I coughed my lungs out. I kept trying, not knowing the subtank had adjustable air flow. I was really discouraged until my classmate gave me some vaping lessons, I got the hang of it and much preferred vaping to cigarettes. However, I got a nasty cold and vaping made me cough.

I went back to smoking. A few days ago I picked up the vape again and all was well! I changed out the coil (stupid me only primed it for around a minute).

Here are my issues:

-Whenever I hold down the button for more than a couple of seconds, the carto hisses and 'pops'. I've heard this is a common thing for the subtank mini. Is there any way to fix this?

-No matter the e liquid, it tastes a bit soapy and burnt. It's at the point where it hurts my throat. I only do lung hits, mouth to lung makes me cough something fierce. My feeling is that I'm not priming the coil for long enough and that my nicotine strength is too high.

-The coils I have are 1.2ohms. I'm not sure if they make 0.5 or 1.5 for the subtank, but what would be best?

-I've only had the coil in for three days and it's barely producing any vapour. I'm getting really discouraged again :(

Any tips would be really helpful! I'm going back to my vape shop tomorrow to see what can be done.

More VG more clouds....I'm using a max VG juice at 3 mg. in My STM with the .5 coil (running at 30 watts on My Kanger sub mini) because I think it has a easy draw compared to the 1.2 coil and its not to hot with the air control wide open....I do Lung hits not Mouth to Lung....Z

I think I'm going to try that (0.5 coil and more VG in e liquid). Thanks!

So your main issue is your setup isn't producing enough clouds?

If it's tasting 'soapy and burned' and hurting your throat, it's either a) your wattage is too high, or b) your nic level is too high. And if, as you say, it's high PG that stuff is pretty nasty for lung hits in a high percentage!

Probably just low quality e-liquid. I vape high PG, high nic and don't get a harsh taste at all...

I thought you were MTL?

I always inhale directly; I don't vape a mouthful at a time... Clean power, clean wicks/coils and high quality e-liquid make a world of difference...

Thanks for the advice guys :) I live on Vancouver Island and the VIP liquid is hand crafted here, albeit if they're just using PG I can see how that would pose a problem, however I also have liquid from Halo and it still burns, so I'm guessing it's the nicotine content. I'm not sure why vape shops suggest 24mg to start out with, that seems way too high imo, I'll just stick with 6 mg and get a 0.5 coil. Again, I really appreciate the advice!

Halo is also extremely high PG, unless you have their new Evo line, which is high VG. But yes, try lowering the nic!

With EGO's and Mini Protanks, etc., I started at 12mg and went down to 6mg.

Based on what I had read, I dropped my Nic down to 3mg when I started using
sub-ohm tanks like the Subtank Mini etc. I actually boosted my Nic to 4mg last
week when mixing a couple of bottles of DIY ejuice and it was too much (Nic Overload).

Forgot one thing. Did you wash out your Subtank Mini before first use?. Mine came
with some machine oil residue and if left intact can make your juice taste like donkey
poop (Not that I've ever consumed donkey poop).

Evo isn't new, and isn't high VG. Some of the Halo flavors are now made with high VG content. Evo and Halo are made by the same parent company...

My mistake! Since Halo just introduced Evo I thought that was their high VG line.

You can get high VG on select Halo flavors. Halo just started carrying Evo, but it has been around as long as Halo, I believe, just sold on a different site. I personally don't like Evo. I ordered 10ml samples of all the flavors and they are perfumy...
