Newbie in everyway looking for supermarket recipies

Hi all

As the title, and my user title, suggests I am a newbie in every way to vaping. With my two starter kits I also got what I believe to be 1.5 months worth of juice. Although less expensive than analogues, I do find the markup on juices quite painful, and love cooking and making drinks, etc... so I would like to start DIY juice making asap.

However, before committing to ordering a bunch of flavors to experiment with I would like to dabble using PG and Alcohol based flavors that can be found in a supermarket. I was hoping to get some advice on that. Because, for example, I have yet to see people mention an unbranded vanilla in their recipies for example - I'm guessing there is a reason.

Please help a girl out! I live in Japan, and have yet to find a domestic supplier for DIY juicing. Shipping will be at least 25 USD... Which is well, a lot. It still makes sense to do DIY, and I think it will be fun. However to justify the shipping cost I'll want to make relatively large orders... And that seems rather intimidating before having a go at it to make sure the idea doesn't just sound good in my head.

Just my opinion here, but I would avoid the Market brands and get flavor concentrates that are much better quality... and concentration.

Find a recipe or two from the forum here that suit you, and buy just what you need to make them. ( Flavor concentrates that is... PG/VG and Nic you will always use, buy the amount you feel best with,,,, I get mine by the liter.)
This will help you to get a taste of the procedures while you create something that will be a decent Vape !

Before long you will be like the rest of us..... 200 plus Flavors, and always out of just that one you need to make that yummy recipe that just got posted...Lol !
Go for it.... you will have fun, save money, and create eLiquid that is many times better than what you get at most shops.
Go slow on purchases at first... it really dont take all that much gear, and its easy to buy a bunch of supplies you dont need/Use.
Ask questions when in doubt.... Many here are very talented AND Helpful !

And find you a good eLiquid software calculator.... there are many.
This takes all the work outta it and makes things extremely easy !

Nothing you'll find in the grocery store will be comparable to what you'll order from flavor vendors, as the grocery variety is primarily used in baking and for making candy . Some of the Lorann's flavorings from stores are okay, but nothing like FlavourArt, Capella, Flavor Apprentice, etc. If you're going to do it, do it right and make something you'll be proud of.

@Budds starting slow is exactly what I want to do.

The thing is, I'm not willing to pay $25 USD in shipping for an order under 100 USD... Which any reasonable "starter" kit would be. Even that product/shipping ratio is abysmal. Which is why I was hoping someone would have something at least somewhat positive to say about generic flavors. Besides, much of FA is for candies and sodas as well, is it not? Sure looks that way from their site.

But they're more highly concentrated. You only use a few drops in a recipe.

Right I have no problem with the cost of the high quality concentrates. What I am conflicted with is:

1. Ordering 10-15 flavors for my first attempt is scary because if I don't enjoy it that's a major waste.

2. Ordering less than that means 1/3 of the total purchase price will be in S/H, which is painful.


Ah well. It still works out less to buying premixed juice. So if the consensus is that a brand similar to McCormick is a no-go I guess I'll bite the bullet. I was just hoping for an alternative that would let me ease in locally and then expand to importantion once I had more confidence

Don't use grocery store extracts. They're WAY too weak, and some have other components in them. You need concentrated flavors. I found this vendor on ECF. Someone else in Japan was using this site to buy concentrates.
