O-Ring Lube

Like most all I just lubed my o-rings with juice then I read somewhere (I think it was here at VU) about food grade o-ring lube. I said what the hell, just under $10 on Amazon for a tube that should last at least a year, two or more.

I've got to say damn, so glad I tried it. It only takes a small dab on the o-ring for you don't want to over do it. Everything is so much more smooth and seals much better. I just have to screw things down snug, break down is so much easier and rings around RDA base, the top fill or afc for RTA's are smooth as butter after you've used it a few times. The o-rings IMO are much healthier and workable.

Here's the brand I've been using that I apply with a toothpick, and again just a dab will do ya.

I wouldn't use anything on an atty you wouldn't be willing to Vape.... juice works fine.... FOOD safe doesn't mean safe to vape or eat.

It's fine, just keep it on the o-ring. It's made for lubing rings on food processing at high heat so I'm not worried for I don't get it anywhere near my juice.

I've used food grade lubes over the years for O-rings without much success. They seem to help at first, but I've always found they get sticky after a while, I end up not being satisfied with the long term results and go back to using juice. I use what I have left over now for lubing contact surfaces on mech mods.

I believe they are all petroleum products. The MSDS for this one is available here: MSDS.

From that MSDS this one is also petroleum based, and I'll pass on it for that reason. Now this is just me and my personal preferences and YMMV as always :)

What benefit is there to lubing the contacts on a mech?

With this stuff I don't see much other than not sticking. I myself use Deoxit Gold on Copper, Silver and Brass, wonderful stuff and it does improve connectivity a lot, on aluminium or SS Mech's I use Noalox grease. I can't recommend them enough for contacts on Mechs

See the post from r055co below. Deoxit and Noalox are grease with some metallic additives to enhance conductivity. IMO the biggest benefit from these products is how the grease diminishes arcing. The down side is that the grease dries out after a while and then you have to clean it off the contact surfaces and reapply. For me, in the end it's half a dozen of one vs six of the other, and in this case I generally prefer not to lube.
