OBS Bat Review!

The OBS Bat has been out for a while now, HeavenGifts sent me this back in February, but I have been known to be lazy. Anyway, I believe that this is the first mod produced by OBS, who are well known for their Engine RTA’s (original, Nano, Mini, and now the Engine V2), along with the Crius RTA series, plus a few stock coil tanks. Being their first device, I must say they did a fantastic job.
The Bat is a dual battery 18650 device that goes up to 218 watts, way more power than I would ever use. For some reason, the image on the box shows the power set at 220w? I normally vape in the 50-80 watt range. The form factor is very familiar, similar to the ubiquitous Smok Alien. Dimensions are similar as well, but the Bat is a couple mm thicker, and a few mm taller. It is more of a rectangular design, with angles on all the corners. It is very comfortable in the hand, and for me it is perfectly designed to fire with my index finger. The fire button is firm and clicky. The adjustment buttons are on the bottom of the display, and also give a nice click when pressed. 3 clicks on the fire button will enter the menu screen. The menu is pretty basic, and it is very similar to the Alien. This may even be a Smok board, who knows? The menu contains: Light, Mode, Puffs, Setting and Power. The Alien is the same - without the Light setting. Anyway, it is very easy to navigate.
The kit comes with the Damo Tank which uses stock coils, and is compatible with Smok Baby Beast coils. To me, the tank is irrelevant, as I always use RTA’s or RDA’s. I did try it out, and it worked just fine. Once the flavor started to drop off a few days later, I put a Reload RTA on the Bat, and the Damo went back in the box. I much prefer the flavor from an RTA, and I absolutely hate buying coils! So the tank is fine if you like that kind of thing, but it was like most others I have used - unremarkable.
Appearance - This is where the Bat stands out. Definitely a striking design. Angles are everywhere. At first sight, I was not in love with it, but after having it and using it I really do like it a lot. The arrow shaped LED’s on the face are another feature I wasn’t thrilled with - that is until I used it. When I got it, I just popped some batteries in, filled the tank, set the power, and went to town. I figured I could just turn off the lights later, but now I like them on. They are not obnoxious at all, and if I want to stealth vape, I use another (smaller) device… The display is on the smaller side, compared to what is on the market these days, but all pertinent information is there.
Performance - I am one who only uses wattage mode, so I really can’t comment on temp control functionality. In wattage mode, there are the usual preheat settings. I use the hard setting, and it does help to ramp up very quickly. In my experience, this thing performs very well. Battery life is very good as well, I can use it all day with LG browns running around 60 watts.
My thoughts - Overall, a very impressive first offering from OBS. A solid mod, no rattles, and it feels like a quality device in your hand. It is rather hefty, as it is all metal, and carries 2 batteries. Comfortable to hold. Looks are subjective, but I think it looks great. Excellent performance!
Disclaimer, this is my first attempt at writing a review, so it may suck… With that in mind, if anyone has some advice, please share it with me, but be nice about it!
