OMG Kylin leaks like a White House aide

Finally got a Kylin after all the positive raves & reviews and I am so disappointed. It leaks more than my old Kanger mini and I get a mouthful of e-juice when I fill it up. I just re-wicked, much tighter than I am usually comfortable with, and there is no change.
Juice flow control, which is very hard to adjust, is halfway open and airflow is at the first stop. When I purge, hot juice comes oozing out the airflow control. This is worse when I just have filled it, but the telltale ring of wet stickiness encircling the base remains
I have changed O-rings & tried both 2 ml tank and 6 ml tank with no improvement. BTW, flavor is mediocre, which seems to confirm my suspicion that YouTube reviews are just infomercials. I get much better flavor from the OBS Engine mini.
Obviously, I close the AFC when filling, but I haven't done the same with the juice-flow. Do I need to close that off too?
Can anyone out there give me a clue as to what I might be doing wrong here? (perhaps my error is in trusting reviews?)

It could be the juice viscosity but from what I've read the thing needs to be packed tight with cotton.

Yeah I had the Kylin before I Vaped it forward, I didn't like it either mostly due to theleaking issues. I love the Reload, much better than the Kylin IMO.

If you do Facebook, there’s a Vandy Vape group. They discuss in great details about the seeping/leaking. Great arguments as well as to whether it’s user error & manufacturing defects. But I do remember reading about the toothpick trick. Lots of wick, fluff & cut, tuck in juice well, then insert a toothpick behind the wick creating a space & pushing the wick slightly forward. Hope this helps

out of interest two2wheels have you played around trying to wick this tank? It's a PITA because;

1. It's unforgiving if you dont plug it up well this needs a lot of cotton
2. JFC doesnt need to be fully open even when in use
3. When refilling or not vaping close the JFC (overnight etc)
4. Can't have cotton overlapping the airflow holes (usual story on any rebuildable)

If you've already ruled those things out and it's still leaking then base has a fault

Well, I've not had a problem with dry hits using the fuller wick, so I guess I could re wick with even more cotton, even though I could barely stuff it all in this last time.
Viscosity is 60% VG. Maybe a larger ID coil would make sense? Right now I have 3mm coils. I'll try 3.5 mm., I think 4 mm might not fit.
OK, changed my build, 3.5 mm, stuffed like a fat lady at the all-u-can-eat counter....I mean really really tons of cotton....here goes

The issue is that a tank should not be that difficult to get right. Screw unforgiving. I want a forgiving tank. I am fed up with RTAs take me a half hour to get wicked and coiled correctly. And then you find you made a mistake and have to rewick! I want a simple tank that does not leak and has flavour. Is that a lot to ask?

Yes, after 5 days owning this tank I am ready to bench it. It still leaks a bit, even stuffed with cotton. Taste nearly rivals RTAs when vaped at 80 degrees, but I prefer a cooler vape. If I want to deal with leaks for a great taste, I'll vape one of my RDAs. And they only leak when I overdrip! This isn't worth the sticky hands.
I don't have to babysit my other RTAs, wick & rewick all day, close the juice flow & close off the airflow before bedtime. That's bullshit. My OBS Engine mini will be back in the lineup as soon as I vape all the remaining juice out of this thing (or it leaks out, whichever comes first).

I did get the Ceto mesh, wish I'd have held out for the VV Mesh, but who knows? It might just be over-hyped like the Kylin!
I like the Ceto, despite crappy reviews. I am using it with dual coils right now, but it works fine with mesh, especially in squonk mode. I have found I have to pre-burn the mesh to avoid hotspots and use plenty of cotton touching mesh every square mm to prevent those wicked dry hits. Vaped in temp mode for extra insurance.
One good thing is that with so much wick, you don't have to drip every two seconds. You just soak that huge blob of cotton and go. No leaks, no spitback & flavor is decent. If you're squonking, it stays wet and gooey forever.
My one complaint is that the screws are too short, making coil placement a bit of a project. This isn't an issue with mesh. Looks like the VV Mesh RDA wont have that problem.

Yeah, it would probably help if I wanted to jump through hoops to vape this turkey, but I don't think so....What pisses me off is that ZERO YT reviewers mentioned these issues; they must all get paid by Vandy Vape. I had a real good impression of this company before but now not so much.

I went into RBAs because of the cost to keep my subohms in coils, but now I'm a "hobbyist". LOL -Still working on my first perfect round Clapton made from scratch, but I am finding that the more exotic wire doesn't necessarily translate into a better vape. And it's not really expensive to just BUY round Clapton wire or any other type on a spool! There is something to be said for leaving the creativity to the experts.

OK folks- so here's the follow-up. the Kylin leak was unremitting, so I contacted VandyVape. They are sending a replacement, no questions asked.
The fact that I got no argument (or weird wicking tricks advice) tells me that they have dealt with this before, and I'm hoping that whatever the problem that caused it has been resolved. I just wasn't willing to insert toothpicks, pray over it or give it to charity- yet.
At this time it has not arrived, but I will add to this post when it comes to let you all know if the replacement is better.

For me the Kylin is the most important st forgiving rta I have ever owned. I am yet get get any leaking from it. I do get a bit of spit back if I use too little cotton, but I certainly don't pack it full of cotton. I absolutely love this tank. I hope your replacement works well.

UPDATE
New deck (v 1.1) sent from China was leaking all over the 510 connection, into my mod and bubbling through the air flow opening. I have contacted V V again & waiting to hear back, but just wanted to update this post. Thank Dog I was using it on the Yosta Livepor, where the chip board is located opposite the 510, so no damage to working parts. Anyone who buys one, just be aware it could possibly fry your board if you use it on any mod with the guts located up front.
I will update again when I hear back from Vandy Vape, but I have to think QC at the company isn't great.

Just curious- which version do you have? I got the RED after they released the "colors".
