Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.
Outlander managed to pull off quite an achievement with tonight's episode. They showed there is a fate worse than death. We've encountered Black Jack Randall enough times to know him saving Jamie from being hanged didn't mean positive things were ahead but being aware of his nature and knowing about his feelings for Jamie wasn't enough preparation. Brutal. Uncomfortable. Awful. Those are just a few words to describe what happened in the dungeon of the prison.
Watching Jack abuse Jamie was positively painful. Obviously. It wasn't only that Black Jack's actions were violent, they were violating. His treatment of Jamie was disturbing and cruel in a way that made my stomach twist and turn. Black Jack was a force to be reckoned with (and avoided) before, but now, he's a monster. As much of a hard time as I had viewing the episode, I have to say seeing this much of Jack's dark side puts some events of the first season of Outlander into context.
