As had been widely expected, director Joe Wright's Pan failed to fly at the box office this weekend, opening in third place with an estimated $15.5 million. The fantasy epic starring Hugh Jackman reportedly carries a hefty $150 million price tag.
Hope that Pan could make up ground overseas appears dim as it only pulled in roughly $20.5 million abroad. Pan was initially set for a summer release before getting postponed to October.
Pan wasn't the only film getting bad news this weekend. Director Robert Zemeckis' The Walk faced a muted response during its initial exclusive IMAX engagement and fared poorly in wide release, finishing in seventh place with an estimated $3.7 million.
