This Wednesday sees the debut of Hellevator, as the producer of Paranormal Activity and The Purge and the directors of See No Evil 2 have teamed up for… a game show? Okay, this may not be exactly what you’d imagine you’d get, given all the people involved, but just because it’s not a feature film doesn’t mean it’s not intended to be scary and creepy, especially for the people on the show.
There have been many game shows since television began, but it’s safe to say that Hellevator doesn’t feel like the vast majority of them. Airing on GSN, the show involves a group of contestants riding the object of the title into the depths of an abandoned warehouse, where one by one, they have to get out on different floors to conquer some notably unsettling obstacles in order to gain money for their team… or be eliminated from the game (or “killed”, in horror movie vernacular) if they don’t make it back in time, as the Hellevator moves on without them.
