After an enthralling singularly-focused episode two weeks back, and then a great Vanessa-free trek through the desert right after, Penny Dreadful brought back its entire ensemble for "No Beast So Fierce" - an important, violent chapter that featured a lot of movement in everyone's story. In fact, Ethan's story in New Mexico may have been closed out for good now that both Hecate and Jared are dead.

Now, was Ethan's arc tied off too neatly? Perhaps. And by "neatly," I don't mean literally, as there were buckets of blood spilled in order to free him from both his father's judgement and Hecate's devotion. But is this really the end of the whole "Wolf of God" turning evil plot? Because if that's the case, it did feel a bit abrupt. If one was to consider this storyline to be Lucifer's dark arc for the year. Ethan was in danger of being a harbinger of End Times and now Malcolm and Kaetenay (whose miraculous snakebite survival raises questions) may have put an end to that threat. If so, then it's okay. I guess I just expected more out of Ethan from a "dark turn" perspective.
