DHL delivered my ipv4 yesterday. Thought i would pass along a few quick photos and observations. I will post more and do a video review (comparing all the ipv line) soon. If you have specific questions or want a close up photo of something specific please let me know.

Features and details that are fairly common knowledge about ipv4
  • 510 Threaded
  • Utilizes Two High Amp 18650 Batteries (Sold separately)
  • Black Billet Aluminum Body... ACTUALLY SILVER
  • Temperature Control Feature
  • Magnetic Back Cover (No More Screws)... ACTUALLY BALL BEARINGS
  • Micro USB Charging Port - Charge the IPV4 using the Micro USB Port (WRONG)
  • Custom Milled Display Screen with a Flush Fit to the Outside of the Box
  • Dome Style Fire Button and Up/Down Buttons
  • YiHi SX330-V4S Chip
  • Spring Loaded Atomizer Contact Pin
  • Output Wattage Range: 7 w - 100 w
  • Atomizer Resistance: 0.10 ohm - 3.0 ohm
  • USB Charging Cable Included (DOES NOT CHARGE)
  • Reverse polarity protection
  • Battery low voltage protection
  • Low resistance protection
  • Temperature overheat protection
  • Output short circuit protection
I really like the feel of this unit in hand. Seems very solid and a bit heavier than i expected. The curve on one side makes it very comfortable to hold. Size is comparable to ipv3 but feels smaller due to curved edge.

The back "door" closure is made of some kind of high density plastic or rubber but doesn't feel cheap. In fact it has a very cool texture/feel to the hand. It isn't magnetic it uses ball bearings.

Nice battery venting on the bottom. USB cord included and port on bottom again (for updates and charging TBD), a proprietary charge port on side like the original ipv3. Uses 9v 2amp cord (not included). Charging light.

I like the feel of the buttons. The fire button is bigger and much nicer.

YiHi Chip is nice. Seems faster. Nice screen. Easy menu function for changing to temperature control. I bought an aromamizer and plan to give it a shot today and will post again.

Is this the Silver colored one then? And thanks for posting. I have one coming from a pre-order from Smog. Can't wait! I ordered the black one hopefully it will be all black. Oh I ordered it not only for the price but for all the things you listed in your vote. And also noticed on the box contents it says the charge cable is part of the contents fof the box... I hope they do include it, but looking like that's not going to be likely.

Looks nice and thanks for sharing!

I would like to know how long it takes to charge the batteries using the 9v internal charging system?

Yes this is the silver (apparently black is slightly delayed). It includes the usb but not the wall socket 9v2a plug (but the one i got for the ipv3 works). Also notices the box has options for color that include blue, red, and gold (in addition to silver and black). hmmm future release?

Looks really nice. I hope you are planning on some Nickel builds soon. Very curious, it seems easier than the DNA40.

Also, I wouldn't even attempt charging in the device, regardless of wether it's actually an option this time, or not. My iPV3 batteries obviously go in my charger, but so do my Mini 2 batteries. Haven't tried the USB, don't plan on it.

Looks really awesome man! Have fun with it and continue to report back. :)

SO.... i bought an aromamizer by steam crave (hex shaped) because i heard good things about it being a flavor atty. It has really tiny post holes but that should be fine for using 28g Nickel 200. So i sat down tonight and tried repeatedly to build a temp control set up. After a bit of practice I could do single coil set up with no problem but a dual set up (above .12ohms) is a real challenge. Still working on perfecting it.

Bottom line I found the setting for the ipv4 very easy to switch between power mode and temp (ie joules). I can go up to 570 degrees Fahrenheit but found 420-450 a sweet spot.

The charger situation is a bit confusing and perhaps misleading. I have tried the USB cord included. It DOES NOT charge the batteries. It only works for software updates (despite the claims of some vendors). This is verified on skype tonight with P4Y. I have a charge cord i purchased for the ipv3 (from P4Y) and it does work to charge and the little light comes on. Plug in USB... nothing happens.

Be aware that some vendors are (perhaps unintentionally) making some less than accurate claims...
like a magnetic door closure (when in fact it is has ball bearings),
like the mini usb is for charging (when it is only for software updates)
like this unit does passthrough (it does not)

BOTTOM LINE...
For a 100 watt box it is great. Nice design and well made.
For a temp control box is also does really well.
Price is also a big plus.

So you can't vape on it with the IPV3 charger plugged into it? That's kinda weak.

Using the usb and vaping on it makes no difference whatsoever. I have not tried to vape on it with the power cord (which was not included). I am just a bit concerned about messing it up. Rather not me the Guinea pig.

USB charging (5v) will work fine with that chip if used in a 1 18650 battery configuration... which this mod is not. A dual battery configuration of this chip requires a 9v charging source. When the board sees above 4.3v it disables onboard charging through USB and you must use the 9v port. This is the same as all YiHi chips that support 1 and 2 18650 battery configurations. Since this mod was made with a serial 2 battery configuration it will never charge with the USB... which is appropriate for the design. It will only use the USB for upgrading the firmware. It's a feature, not a bug.

in the bottom of the box, was a small black charger cord...though I THINK its for updates not charging

the cord does nothing for it except u use the cord for any updates..which I was also told will never need to be done either..so the cord was a freebie...u charge your batteries separately and vape-recharge reload...

I just seen some photos today of someone who got juice in the charging port and the mod was destroyed. Guess they over dripped. Just be careful.

yeah I saw that too..theres this little tiny hole not sure how to explain it but its not the normal charging port, that's on the bottom of it,but I can't figure out how that even happened its crazy...because of where and how this hole is lined up I don't get it but I dont drip-only using a temperature controlled tank that just came out called TCT by smok...love it. $27 for it and 5.5 ml tank....3 diff colored o'rings all come with it also (green, red, black and 2 coils) no deck but I don't build..love it

I have the IPV4 and can confirm that the USB port is for upgrading only. Also then 9v port works if you have a 9v charger (which luckily for me I had one) and it charges just fine. The problem I am having is getting my PC to detect the device. I have d/l the software and installed it but still does not see device. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

There's nothing to update. Apparently these are already all updated!

You have to connect it without batteries in for the software to detect it.

How do we download software? What software how?or we don't need to? The 9v port hole should we even use it ?

It's already upgraded, so you don't need to download any software.

I'm not going to use the 9v port hole to charge (not that I even have a 9v charger!). I have some messy attys, so I'm going to try and find something to plug the hole so I don't get juice in it!

Thank you Stoned! I would have never thought of taking the batteries out. Doesn't make much sense as to why you can't have the batteries in but I'll give it a shot and see if it works!!
