Hello Everyone and welcome to Pizza Dave’s Vape Reviews. Today I will be reviewing the Mystique kit by Ijoy. The Mystique has been out for a little while, I didn’t see a ton about it at release, and then the Shogun kit was released by Ijoy, and this one really disappeared in the shuffle. Regardless, here is a little bit of info about this device. The Mystique is a dual 18650, 162w regulated device. It comes in a lightweight frame, with smooth, round edges, has a traditional led display, and as a kit is complete with the Mystique mesh sub-ohm tank. Let’s dive down and take a closer look at the Mystique and as always, I will have my final thoughts down at the bottom.

MOD OVERVIEW
Right out of the gate, the first thing that jumped it is obviously the styling choice here. It has a funky, almost scale look to it. The second thing that jumps out is the rounded ergonomic feel of it all. It feels great in the hand and is also lightweight. The main frame of the mod is metal, but the sides are 100% plastic, and while this does shave some weight it adds a certain “cheap” feel at the same time. The 510 pin is centered on the mod and will fit up to a 24mm atomizer without overhang. The batteries on this one is installed behind a magnetic battery door. The battery door is held firmly in place with magnets and has no rattle. Lastly, due to the slim design of this device, Ijoy ended up going with a more traditional, horizontal led display.

OPERATION
5 clicks of the fire button (power will automatically come on with new batteries as well) and we are off and running. The Mystique comes with a basic board which seems to be laid out in the same fashion as the Katana. The smaller LED display is easy to read, shows everything you need to know, and has a simple menu system. There are a couple of button combos with this device that are different than the normal. First off, pressing the up and down buttons together will read the resistance of the connected atomizers. It is a bit odd, considering most devices use this combo for locking the adjustment or the device all together. With the Mystique, there is no button lock at all, so if you don’t want this firing in your pocket, you will have to shut it off completely. Beyond those couple of button combos, this device also has a main menu, which is accessible with 3 clicks of the fire button. From here you will be able to scroll through the following.
PMODE – Allows you to adjust between soft, normal, and hard preheats in power mode
MTL – Designed for MTL atomizers. It gives you wattage adjustment from 1 to 15w in .1 increments
POD – For use with pod adapters like we saw on the VPC kit. It gives you voltage adjustment of 2.5 to 3.8v
POWER – Standard wattage mode from 1 to 162 watts. It does not round robin when scrolling.
TEMP – Temp control for Ti, Ni, SS, and TCR.
PUFFREST – Reset the puff counter
In power mode, everything seems normal. You scroll through wattage and can see the level of preheat on the top right of the display. Not much else to do, but when it comes to temp control, we have the temperature setting, and the preheat wattage. For whatever reason, when I first would get into temp control modes and start adjusting temp, I found that it wouldn’t change, but then saw that the preheat wattage was changing. I found that some quick button combos were needed to toggle back and forth from adjusting the temp or adjusting the preheat wattage. To adjust the temperature setting you must press fire and the down button together. To get back into adjusting preheat wattage, press the fire and up button together. Depending on which one you are adjusting, the symbol next to them will flash. Once you get this down, it is normal adjustments as usual. One oddity with TC on this is the preheat wattage, as it allows you to do the full 162w if you want to.
Other than the odd TC adjustments, the entire device is as straight forward as it gets. I think they should have axed the MTL and pod modes on this since those were obviously left overs from the Katana (the kit came with atomizers of all types), but it is still simple enough where vapors of all experience should be able to figure it all out.

HOW IT VAPES
As many of you may know, I normally prefer to vape in wattage mode only. Based on my experience, I would say that wattage performance is close to the settings of the device. I give them props for not exaggerating the max power of the device and kept it to a 162w max. Even on normal, the ramp time of the device is quick enough for me, and it never missed a beat when vaping up to 100w or so. I don’t normally vape with temp control but opted to do some testing for the review. I ran it on SS with round-wire 24g SS in a rda. The temperature shown on the screen feels a little cooler than what it shows, so I had to turn it up higher than I normally would to get the vape I desired. I found that it always worked best if I would read the resistance with a room temperature coil first as well. I had some moments where it would hit as it should, but the next puff or so, I would get no output. When I read resistance first, it would work as intended. When I did get it to work, I found that the output also doesn’t taper off quickly enough to prevent dry hits, but it tapers off enough to let you know it is getting dry. It isn’t the best temp control I have seen lately, and probably isn’t acceptable for TC aficionados. I just tested it that little bit, so maybe someone with fancy equipment can show you what the true TC performance is like. Since this came as a kit, most of my testing was with the included Mystique Mesh tank on top. I always like to use tanks until I get to the point where the coils are shot, so let’s get right to it and see how this one works.

TANK REVIEW
To start off, it’s a plastic tank, with non-replaceable mesh coils. This is a 100% disposable tank, and replacements look to be around $10-12 each. Being it is plastic, it looks and feels ungodly cheap and has a pod system like rubber plug on top for refills. I am not a fan of this messing refill method, as we are all spoiled with sliding tops, or large kidney fill ports these days, so this just doesn’t cut it for me. However, I was able to ditch the negativity of the plastic tank after I vaped on it. I was almost shocked at this. I used one of my standard flavors I always use and was pleasantly surprised by the flavor it put out. It was awesome, for about 4 days. Then the coil started to fade out a little, and then……. I don’t know what happened during normal use, but the tank started to pour liquid out of the air flow like crazy. It drained an entire tank to empty in one hour and soaked the device in the process. Somehow the Mystique survived this without any issues, but it was a huge let down. This was enough to send this disposable tank straight to the trash can.
