INTRODUCTION
Hello everyone and welcome to Pizza Dave’s vape reviews. Today I will be going over everything you need to know about the Espion Silk Kit by Joyetech. I always keep my reviews unbiased, but I must mention that this was sent to me by Joyetech for review. The Silk is the latest “Espion” mod to hit the market by Joyetech. It is small, portable, and comfortable in hand. They went for innovation with the mod itself, and the included NotchCore tank. I will dig into these innovative designs and give you my thoughts down at the bottom!

FEATURES
The Espion Silk is a mod of few big features, but what it does have is one unique look. The device is covered in rubber panels that offer a great feel in the hand. This is powered by a built-in 2800MAH battery, which keeps the weight to a minimum. With a max wattage of 80W, Joyetech pulled off a nice combo and added in the NotchCore atomizer. This tank runs off small cylindrical coils that push into place. This is something I personally have never used before and they nailed it. They run at a low wattage range of 20-25w and compliment this small device great as the battery life is sustained for a long time. If any oddities happen and this thing locks up, there is a reset button built into the bottom. The Silk offers up the usual modes such as wattage, bypass, and TC operation, and has a simple menu system that is easy to navigate.

OPERATION
The menu system and operation of the Espion Silk is simple and easy to navigate. I never had to look at the manual as everything was natural and like other mods on the market.
Operation and menu systems are as follows:
- 5 clicks on, 5 clicks off.
- No power up or power down screen at all, so it turns on and off quickly
- 4 clicks of the fire button when in temp control will allow the user to adjust the preheat wattage.
- 3 clicks enters the operations menu where you can then scroll through the modes of the mod.
- This includes wattage, bypass, Ni temp control, Ti temp control, SS temp control, Memory 1 temp control, Memory 2 temp control, Memory 3 temp control, and round robins back to wattage.
- Press up and down buttons simultaneously to lock the power or temp setting, buy the device still fires
- Press up and fire buttons simultaneously to enter an options menu
- This options menu features screen layout (choose what you want to see in the bottom right corner), stealth mode, power/duration settings, max puff time (5,10,15s), hardware/firmware version, and battery voltage level.

HOW IT VAPES
During my testing period I used this device strictly in wattage mode with the included atomizer. My overall experience with it has been pretty good. It didn’t really blow me away or anything but operates good as a starter kit. The built-in battery has excellent battery life when paired with the included NotchCore tank when running at 25W (sweet spot imo). I went through two full work days on a single charge and about 6 tank refills, so I would say this pairing is great for people on the go. I never dabbled with the TC of the device but have read a few reports that state that it does a decent job of controlling temp for a simple little device like this. This thing is light, and easy to grab on the go. The rubber jacket feels nice and soft and doesn’t collect dust like some other rubbery mods do (looking at you Aegis Legend). As I always do with kits, I will now dive into the tank that is included in the kit, the NotchCore sub ohm tank.

NOTCHCORE TANK REVIEW
The included NotchCore tank is a bit of an innovative little guy. Instead of standard coils, it uses cylindrical, pre-wicked coils that pop into a holder horizontally rather than threaded into place. There are several advantages to this coil system, and not many cons. They are easy to change, can be cleaned up and re-wicked if needed, and are cheap to produce. Another perk is that they are easy to prime and can be vaped right away if you soak them in liquid before re-assembling the tank. The flavor from these small coils is decent and run at a lower wattage by today’s standards (20-25w). With a 2.5ml capacity, I found that the liquid lasts a fair amount of time, but I still had to refill a few times throughout the day. The air flow on this atty is smooth, and very airy. I liked to run this with the air flow half open, but even at that point it has a ton of air. I would like to see them make a more restricted MTL version of this tank as it would be a great on the go kit for nic salts. I ran roughly 20mls of liquid before I felt that the flavor might be starting to degrade a bit but kept on running until 35mls. Of course, this could be due to some “cleaner” liquid being run, but it seems to have decent coil life for something so cheap and simple. Overall this isn’t a bad tank, but the muted flavor might be the only real con I could come up with.
