INTRODUCTION AND FEATURES
The Luxotic NC (noisy cricket) is one of the latest releases from the well-known company, Wismec. This device is a dual 20700/18650 powered selectable series/parallel box mod with variable voltage adjustment. With an onboard chipset, this device has the look and feel of a mechanical box mod of the past but has added protections and indications to bring it to the modern era. It features a switch for series or parallel modes, a potentiometer for adjusting the output voltage, and all the typical protections we come to expect from an onboard chipset. All of this is packed into a metal and resin body that looks much more expensive than the price it sells for. It looks gorgeous and feels great in the hand, but let’s dive in to see if it functions as good as it looks!

OPERATION
Operating this device is about as simple as it gets. Since it has no display, all there is to go off is a little LED on the top of the mod. It has a few basic functions within, but with the lack of a display I suggest that the user reads through the manual before firing this one up.
Operations are as follows:
- 5 clicks on, 5 clicks off (flashes of light on power up)
- Move the selector switch to the “J” side of Jaybo for parallel mode
- Move the selector switch to the “O” side of Jaybo for series mode
- When the switch is flipped the LED will flash 5 times and when firing the device, the LEDs indicate the mode by color. RED = Series and WHITE = Parallel
- Adjusting Voltage
- Once the mode is set, one can adjust the voltage output by turning the potentiometer to the right to increase and left to decrease. Everything I see on the Wismec site indicates that this operates from 1-8v. When I was using it, rather than calculating out my wattage, I simply started out in parallel mode and the lowest output and worked my way up until it was about where I like it. If maxed out parallel wasn’t enough, I turned it down and switched it to series and continued to ramp up to my liking. With the built-in chipset, it has protections that prevent it from firing below .1 ohm (indicated by 5 quick flashes and no operation) and protect against short circuits, so I wasn’t too worried about the .35 build I ran. It is nice to have a simple device that has some simple protections for peace of mind.

HOW IT VAPES
The simplicity of the device makes it very enjoyable. The operation of it is easy to get the hang of, and I love having that mechanical feel with the added protections for safe vaping. The ability to adjust it and fine tune the wattage makes this a very versatile mod and takes the guess work out of getting just the right build for the desired vape. I ran it through the ringer with a .14 build and cranked up to what I would assume is 150w and I never had it go into an overtempt fault (5 flashes of LED and power down) at all. It stayed cool and never missed a beat. For my entire review period I used amp king 20700 batteries and was very satisfied with the battery life and performance with them.

As part of my how it vapes section, I always cover the included atomizer. The Luxotic NC comes with the second iteration of the Guillotine, with the Guillotine V2 RDA. The biggest change in the atomizer is that it is now has bottom air flow vs. the side air flow of the V1. It looks right at home on top of the device and has an included drip tip that matches the resin of the mod. This is a case where looks don’t mean much, because that that is about where the fun ends. The build deck has some terrible post screws. I have NEVER had major issues with screws, but with this, I stripped one out right away. It is unfortunate that this happened, because that is about the only thing they missed the mark on. The build deck features a dual screw clamp system which allows the clamps to perfectly aligned with the coils evenly, even if the coils are not sitting in there perfect. I was able to get install coils for testing by favoring both coil leads to the one screw that was still good. This made me wish that it all worked out, because this actually vapes really good. Vapor and flavor production are on point and is has a nice, deep juice well which makes it great for dripping. The bottom air flow is smooth and flows directly to the coil. If the deck had a better screw design I would gush and gush over this cheap rda, but with the screw situation it gets a big FAIL from me. I am hoping mine is just some odd factory flaw, but if not….it is a missed opportunity for Wismec.

RDA PROS
- Flavor is excellent
- Produces great, thick vapor
- Deep juice well is great for dripping
- Looks great on this mod
- Beauty ring fits other 24mm rdas to make them look at home too (see Bonza pics)
______________________________________________________________________________
RDA CONS
- Gets a bit warm when used at higher wattage (but I was pushing it hard)
- Post screws stripped out immediately

FINAL THOUGHTS
I really enjoyed using this device. It looks beautiful, and the quality overall is pretty good. The resin sheath doesn’t match up perfectly or sit tight to the metal frame, but it is passable for something this cheap. The battery door stays secure in place and the battery markings are clearly marked on the door and inside the mod. The switch on top seems like the weakest link, and may break with continuous use, but that is just speculation. Overall as a kit, it provides a great vape experience, has a lot of power, and all the protections to keep a vapor safe. The included RDA vapes great, but the screw issues make it a no go for me. The mod itself works well and is great looking for something as affordable as it is. Mine has a permanent spot in my vape arsenal and gets its fair share of use daily. I have always liked to keep a dripper setup around for when I am at home and the Luxotic is the reigning champ of my dripper setups.

REVIEW CRITERIA: I use each item for about two weeks to ensure I have collected enough data to adequately write a review. I use the same e liquid in tanks or rdas throughout all my reviews to ensure that I am comparing apples to apples between all modern equipment. I do not post reviews until I feel confident that I have used it enough to give an educated review. The reason I started doing reviews was due to poor purchasing decisions in my vaping infancy about two years ago. Back then, I purchased several different pieces of hardware without really enjoying it and I hope my reviews can guide people into spending their hard-earned money more wisely than I did! ****Keep in mind that some items I receive may be pre-release and not in retail packaging. Quality may be less than the finished product and what is in the package may differ from the retail package as well.
