So, a little hit ago I put my 2 efest batteries into my Hammond mod, and one had the top plastic wrao fold up as i put it in and catch fire. What I'm wondering is this, is this an isolated incident since the plastic was the problem or could this be a battery short, and it may vent later?
Dood.
Look at your sled. Some battery tabs really suck.
You probably bridged the outer battery shell to the positive end of the battery, so it was a localized heat source and tab may show damage and sled may have melted too.
This localized a heat soucre could screw up the insulator in the battery.
Here's how you avoid this.
Place battery in sled + end first, ass end out.
Then push Neg end into tray.
This way the tab doesn't wear off or cut the jacket on the positive end.
The plus end tab in sled should be 'V' shaped, 'pointing' to cell.
If it is too flat, that's where the risk of a short pop up when using flat top batteries.
The trays are designed to use button tops safely.
Take the batteries out Neg end first.
The positive sled tab will hang up on the battery jacket when pulling them out from that end first. That is also an indication you should bend the tabs.
