Please help me choose a new tank

Hello everyone.

I started vaping a month ago with the joyetech evic vt and i have the mega one tank which i don't really like. First of all it randomly leaks a little too often. Second, i don't really like the flavor that much either. Titanium 0.4ohm coil was very inconsistent for me, sometimes it tasted great other times it was downright nasty (i set it between 45-50W and 450-550F). Especially every time i turned it on the first 5-10 minutes of use it tasted awful, i did always soak the cotton and let it saturate first but i'm guessing maybe i'm supposed to start at a low temperature/wattage to let it warm up or something? The kanthal 1 ohm coil i'm now using (at 15-20W, it tastes awful/burnt at higher wattages) has a consistent but dull flavor.

Anyway, these are the tanks i'm able to choose from: (i know the uwell crown, atlantis aspire, triton, freemax starre and others are very popular but, long story shory, where i live it's too much of a hassle for me to be able to get them as well as their coils)
- smok tfv4
- kanger subtank mini V2
- horizon arctic
- smok GCT gimlet

Most important to me are no leaking as well as good flavor. Big clouds would be nice but their possible absence isn't a dealbreaker for me. I don't care if it's noisy (crackling/gurgling?) nor do i care about the amount of juice that can go in it. Don't really care if the coils are kanthal, nickel or titanium as long as the flavor is good. I'm hoping nickel isn't toxic btw, it seems the jury is still out on that one, and none of them have titanium so maybe i should just go with kanthal? That would eliminate the GCT since it only has the nickel coils.

I'll only be using stock coils, not interested yet in making my own. It's a max 60W device so preferably a tank that shines between 40-60W. Now, as far as the leaking, i have been googling a bit of course and the kanger has a lot more mentions of that being a problem than the others but that might just be because a lot more people use that one, i don't know.

Sorry for the long post, i tried to cover all the bases and give as many details as i could think of since i don't really know which of that information you guys need to help me out. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

The Kanger Subtank Mini is the first subohm tank i bought and i still use it everyday. Flavor is good and its never leaked one bit on me. I just ordered the Stainless steel coils so pretty excited to see how they work. For your main tank its a big upgrade! FYI the TFV4 would need a higher wattage mod for you to really get the benefits o

Moving this over to clearos...

I have both a Subtank and an Arctic, they're okay. I have a Crown and it blows those two out of the water - I know that's not on your list, but it and the TFV4 are the hottest tanks on the market right now, people that have both seem to like both about equally, some preferring one or the other. So based on your list, I'd go TFV4.

Thanks for the replies guys.

@danblas: that's one of the things i was wondering about with the TFV4 since the guy at the store said it's best for 40-130W which is quite a big range and obviously at 60W i'd be at the low end. Also, good to hear the Subtank performs well, at the start of my search that one always seemed like the safe/popular choice. It's just that the more i googled the more problems i found. Then again, on the internet, i suppose you'll always find what you're looking for if look long enough.

@OBDave: would you say you there's a difference in taste between Subtank and Arctic? Or are they both basically the same? Also, as far as the TFV4, would you agree with danblas' concern about needing a higher wattage mod? Thinking about it it does seem like overkill for my 60W evic VT, with the triple/quadruple coils.

So far i'm leaning toward Subtank and Arctic, i guess as a beginner okay is good enough for me (can't be worse than the Ego One VT Mega Tank) and they have a wider range of stock coils available than the Smok devices. I would like to hear some more replies about, well all of them of course, but especially the TFV4. If someone who has a 50-60W device could share their experience with it, that would be perfect.

I've never seen a Sub-Ohm tank that doesn't leak.My sub-tank mini must be cursed cause it leaks like crazy. So far the least leaky sub-ohm tanks I own are the Atlantis Mega* and The iSub Apex.

*If you like big tanks get 1 of these it's a bit over 30mm and holds 5ml of e-liquid.

I have a Crown as well. It is def my favorite but his wattage isnt really high enough to use it. Out of both the Crown and the Subtank its an easy choice to use the Crown but i have a high watt device. Honestly i have never had leaking problems with either tank though, unless the Subtank has the RBA then it does leak a lil.

I have a couple Atlantis tanks that I'm very happy with. I have a v1 and v2, I never have any leaking issues they have a good coil selection ni200 and SS along with .5 .3 1.0 coils. Price is cheap an coils and such are available everywhere, even my local shop carries them. Might be worth a look.

Is there any chance you can order online, as everything is so much more affordable and available?

Also, can your Joyetech evic be upgraded to 75w? i know the evic mini can. It is a firmware update from their website using a USB cable if I remember correctly.

If not, you could pick up a mod such as the istick 100 for $35 give or take, then get more flexibility with the TFV4 or Herakles Plus. You would also need batteries and a charger. Dont skimp on the batteries, given the safety factor, if you go that route at some point in time.

The Kanger mini is a nice tank with 0.5 kanthal OCC vertical coils, and some new ones are coming out. I wouldnt waste time with the 1.2 or 1.5. Nice flavor, ok clouds too, but not as much body to the vapor vs more powerful tanks. That is what I miss about smoking, so I dont rely on the Kanger exclusively.

The Arctic has decent flavor and clouds but is not a good fit for my vaping style. If I take 3 or 4 hard drags, I will burn the coil, even with the 0.2 and at only around 65w. Same with the Crown, plus their coils need a lot of priming.

My Kanger, Atlantis V2, and Herakles are more tolerant of my occasional misuse.

If you do get an Arctic, the original tank was small and only held about 2 ml of juice. Now you can get bigger versions, I think 5 ml is most common.

Again thanks for all the replies. You don't have to read all of the following, short version: i'm picking one of the four i've mentioned but in case you're wondering. First let me try to explain the ordering online situation a little bit. I live in belgium so to keep shipping cost down i either have to order from belgian or dutch stores. Technically in belgium physical stores aren't even allowed, it's all online. However the tanks i mentioned are from an online vendor who uses a loophole, basically he doesn't have a store but a "pick up" point. That's also the only vendor i've found to do that, the others are strictly online (in my area anyway). The evic vt i have i actually had to drive to the border to get it in the netherlands, problem is that over there they aren't allowed to sell tanks over 2ml. I know, weird laws around here. Now, my joyetech mega tank that i got over there does hold 4ml but that store wasn't exactly legal and he didn't have a lot of options either which is why i want to buy somewhere else. Long story short, that store with the four tanks i mentioned is my best option, it has a lot of variety in e-juice, has good costumer service, is close in case i want to go there and has free shipping in case i'm too lazy to go there.

As far as the u well crown i've only found one belgian/dutch online vendor that has it and he charges 9€ for shipping and i don't really want to pay that every time i need new coils. Also, maybe he decides to stop selling them at some point and then i'm basically SOL since no other belgian/dutch store sells them. Also, they don't sell e-juice so then i'd have to order my coils from there and my juice from somewhere else. I'd prefer just to stick with one place to keep it simple.

@vwfan79 and @AZ_Shooter Those look like good options but getting them is too much of a hassle for similar reasons as the crown mentioned above. I'm not proud of it but i am lazy. I do appreciate the suggestions though.

@mikeyboy74 Unfortunately it's not firmware upgradeable. The istick 100w is 55€ here and since i paid 80 for this evic vt i want to use that one a little longer before moving on and buying something else. Also, i think that 60w is enough for me, not sure my throat can take much more. Good to hear another positive review about the kanger, from what i've read it seems like a good beginner's tank. That one was my initial preference, i was just a little worried about the possible leaking. Thanks for the warning about the arctic btw, i'd like to keep the burnt hits to a minimum.

I think i'll just go ahead and get the kanger subtank mini, might not be the best but it seems like a safe choice for now. Thanks again for all the help.

I'd say that the Subtank is better for mouth-to-lung use, or if you're interested in playing with the RBA head that comes with it. I only used mine at 25 watts or less, and only for a month or so - my wife was a Subtank diehard (and also a lower-wattage vaper) who swore by hers for months. The Arctic can be pushed a little harder wattage-wise, I use mine around 55 watts (most seem to go higher than I do), but I find most coils I've tried to be rather disappointing flavor-wise.

I'm running my Crown at 45 joules and 490F, have only used the TC coil so far. Wife ran hers with 1.2 coils at around 20-25 watts and liked it quite a bit, but most Crown users seem to detest the 1.2 coils and greatly prefer the 0.5 or 0.25 - for those you're going to be maxing out a 60 watt device and even still that may not be enough to drive the 0.25. The reason I like the TFV4 here, @danblas, is the variety of coils available for it, including some that could function fine within the wattage parameters in question. I doubt the sextuple coils would fire satisfactorily, though...
