Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow...
I wondered, given the fate of Jumpstriker a few episodes ago, if this season was headed toward that fateful, tragic crime scene from the Powers comics' "Who Killed Retro Girl?" arc. In fact, I wondered if that was the endgame back at the start when we saw Krispin turning the Kaotic Chic gamertag into graffiti. Just have Retro Girl be a character for one season and then funnel everything into the mystery surrounding her death. Makes sense.
In fact, despite this past season's messiness, the Retro Girl murder element worked well because Michelle Forbes was such an enjoyable presence. And we got to see her fight, watch her cry, eat ice cream. We came to know her character - along with witnessing a handful of quieter, more reflective scenes between her and Walker. So her death means more overall. And you can easily understand Walker's tears at the end. It was definitely a more emotional way to approach this story. Of course, TV can't help but foreshadow things sometimes so it was hard to see Walker and Retro's final "nooner" as anything but a "doom and gloomer."
