The upcoming Predator prequel, Prey will be the first film ever to get a full dub in Comanche.

During an interview with ComicBook.com, producer Jhane Myers explained why the film is going to break language barriers.

“We do have like Comanche throughout the film,” she explained. “But when you first choose to watch the film, this will be the first time that the Comanche language, and I’m Comanche, by the way, this will be the first time that our language is in a full dub and also subtitled for the whole film.”

The new Predator film takes the franchise back 300 years, pitting the iconic alien hunters against the Comanche tribe in a historical sci-fi like no other.

A brief plot outline reads: "Set in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, the action-thriller follows Naru, the skilled warrior who fiercely protects her tribe against a highly evolved alien predator."

The new movie has been in the works for a few years, with director Dan Trachtenberg at the helm. Indigenous actor Amber Midthunder stars as the film’s hero, Naru, a warrior who protects her tribe from the otherworldly threat.

Considering the film’s premise, it feels as though this is a natural fit for a full Comanche dubbing.

“The language component's very important because this will also be the first time that a film has been completely [dubbed],” confirmed Myers. “You get the option of watching it in Comanche on a brand-new film.”

“I know that Navajo has done [dubbings] twice, with Star Wars,” she added. “But Star Wars was 30 years old when that came out, Finding Nemo was 20 years old. But here we are, this movie resets a whole lot of paradigms, and one of them is the language component.”

The upcoming Predator prequel will debut on Hulu on August 5, 2022, with no theatrical release.

Prey will star Amber Midthunder as Naru, alongside Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp, Dane DiLiegro, and Stefany Mathias. Dan Trachtenberg directed the film based on a screenplay by Patrick Aison.
