Night Sky, now out on Prime Video, is going where no television show has gone before — to space.
Prime Video, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and satellite services providers SES and Intelsat all worked together to beam the show into space among the stars. This marks the first-ever intergalactic premiere for a TV series.
Theoretically, this means the broadcast is available to any and all lifeforms out in space “that are open to receiving satellite signals 384,000 kilometers away and beyond — the equivalent distance from Earth to the Moon,” according to a Prime Video Press release.
With more than double the regular amount of UFO reports, perhaps there’s some distant alien lifeform who will discover the broadcast.
This marks Night Sky as the TV series that has traveled the furthest for distribution, and Prime Video the first streaming service to broadcast any content into space. Co-stars Chai Hansen and Kiah McKirnan virtually welcomed viewers to the space premiere.
They also encouraged anyone viewing it who resides in any of Prime Video’s 240 countries and territories to tune into the full series. According to Amazon's press release, “the broadcast will occur in Ku- and C-band, common frequencies for satellite TV, media distribution, and communications.”
Night Sky stars Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons, as a couple who years ago discovered a chamber buried in their backyard. The chamber leads them to a strange and deserted planet. They’ve kept the chamber a secret, but when an enigmatic young man enters their lives, the couple’s quiet life is upended.
