Question about sigelei 150TC

I just got the sigelei yesterday and it's my first sigelei I've had an ipv3 that I was using but it was to good a deal to pass up. My question is I understand that you have to use TC won't work with kanthal but I have a kanthal build in since I don't have any nichrome and when I set it for TC mode and set a temperature it still worked. Can anyone explain why it's still working in joule mode for me.

Usually I build with 26, 24, and 22 gauge kanthal. What gauges should I order of nickel wire. I go more for flavor and usually build around .25 ohm
