Questions about rta vs sub ohm tank

I currently have a herakles plus. It leaks like crazy every time I fill it and I'm in the market for a new tank anyway since I'm going to get a new mod. I recently started considering rtas as I think it would be fun to build and what not, but what I was wondering is, I know rebuildables get more flavor and vapor. Will an rta get that much better flavor than the crown or herakles sub ohm tanks? What coil configurations typically give the best flavor and vapor?

I love RTAs due to the ability to customize your vape experience. Plus no more buying expensive factory coils.

What kind of power levels do you like to vape at?

I'm always going to say ss316L gives the best flavor and performance, because I honestly believe that. But there are tons of rtas out there that can provide you with the exact experience you're looking for. Single or dual coil, high performance or high resistance, restrictive air feel or wide open air, etc. And then the coils you use add an entirely new layer of customization beyond rta choice. But I personally get far better flavor and performance out of my rtas than I do from any subohm tank I've ever used. The crown is pretty exceptional for a subohm tank though.

My top RTA's...

1. Boreas

2. MuTank

3. MT

4. Ohmega BFT

5. Ohmega Alpha

6. VCMT

For builds at least for me I cant beat a fused Clapton. My go to build is 7 wraps 3mm dia of 2x24g wrapped in 34g all SS. With some of the smaller decked tanks (aint genetics a bitch?) I drop it to 28g for the core. I also have been known to use 3 strands of 28g twisted for the core. Right now Ive got 3.5mm coils in my Boreas 2 strands 24G kanthal twisted with 2 strands of .8mm Nicrome ribbon. I got bored and was playing around with building things and ended up with this. working pretty good on my G2.

Mind you taste is very subjective, so YMMV

I typically would be vaping around the 70-100 watt range with an occasional 120 ish in there to play around.

Then I recommend one of the dual coil RTAs. Many interesting new choices in the 24-25mm category for large coils. Check out: Boreas, Griffin25, Supreme, Herakles RTA2, Avocado24, Limitless, Smok TF RTA with g2 deck.

I would avoid the Tornado and the Smok g4 deck unless you're really bored.

For coil builds if you get something beefy like a boreas or herakles rta2, go for claptons, fused claptons, that kind of thing. Lots of power capability and loads more flavor than the subohm tanks.

Planning on running a dual coil on the griffin 25. What would be the best for flavor and vapor? How many wraps, what mm bit and what wire?

That's all personal preference :) It can support 3-3.5mm ID coils.

I'm looking at the geek vape claptons as I've heard claptons have good flavor. What would be best from here http://vapenw.com/prebuilt-clapton-coils-by-geek-vape
Looking to do 70-100 watts. Maybe 120?
You can try these if you are looking to run a lot of watts. If you would be happy with the lower end of your watt range these should do nicely. The nice thing about ordering premade coils from AVS is you get to choose how many wraps you want and how large the inside diameter of the coils are. I'd start with 2.5mm 6 wrap coils.

Well, it seemed appropriate. I'm running your wire in two of my RTAs right now and already wrapped some AVS SS fused Clapton wire for the Merlin that will get here tomorrow. I always recommend the stuff I enjoy using. ^_~
I'm getting a merlin tomorrow too. Already have my fused clapton set aside for it too, haha

I've never used GeekVape wire, but if it's Chinese wire then I would personally stay away from it. Although there are a few exceptions, Chinese wire is usually of substandard quality and sometimes even unvapable. @Trusty_vapor Send me a PM and I'll send you a free set of coils from PureCoils that I think you'll be quite pleased with.

What are you using for an RDA/RTA?
