Hi all! I'm extremely new at the whole vaping thing. I just started Friday evening after talking to the guy in my local smoke shop about all the pros to doing it.
I'm 49 years old, have smoked since I was about 14. Bad, I know. I was totally against the whole idea until the smoke shop guy told me about how beneficial it can be. I've tried quitting the analogs cold turkey, what a joke, the patch, etc. obviously nothing worked, but then I tried this and holy cow! I've gone from almost two packs a day to 3-5 a day. Seriously. No real withdrawls to speak of, it really satisfies me.
So this is the kit they started me out with : https://gotojoes.com/shop/criss-cro...l-vaporizer-kit-and-any-criss-cross-e-liquid/
I've been doing a lot of research and reading, and have seen how a lot of seasoned vapers get these fancy set ups. but I really like my little deal that I have. It's easy to carry around, I have 3 tanks that I change off as I need/want, and I'm apparently getting the nicotine I need from it, because I've squashed my analog intake to about nil so far.
I do find myself kind of a vape-a-holic in the evenings and I'm not sure what's up with that. Will that stop? I've started out on the 24 mg nictotine right now I mix the regular tobacco flavor with a tad bit of peach and it's really good. Yummy!
All I have to say is, OMG I can't believe how easily I've done this so far! It's so enjoyable, that analogs are starting to taste crappy and I look more forward to a vape than a cigarette. When should I start to cut down the nicotine? Should I give it time? or am I a natural?
I'm open to any advice you can offer.

Great share!
I started out with something similar, but only used 24mg for a week. It was too strong, so went to 18mg. For a while it worked great for me, but started having trouble sleeping at night. That's when I started reducing my level of nic. Some people still vape the same strength they started on, some have gone all the way to no nic, some still vape, some don't and still hang out here.

Glad you decided to join us. Keep it up!

crookd, in my opinion 24mg when vaping is comparable to smoking 2 stinkies at the same time, I think while weaning yourself off 12mg at first and then to 6mg. High nic is a harsh vape and affects flavor. If you stay with it and progress with vaping more than likely you will discover sub ohm vaping. Most sub ohm vapers use 3mg or 6mg. You have to remember with a short hit you intake a lot of nic, especially using 24mg.

Thanks all! One thing I've noticed is, I'm a bit self conscious about doing it where anyone can see me (besides home of course) It's kind of funny, the smoke shop downtown sellls a TON of vape stuff and I've seen a TON of people buying it, but I never really see anyone vaping. Are they all in hiding? I can't at work of course, except on my lunch hour, and I don't think I'd try it at a restaurant or anything, that would just be rude. I kind of feel like I'm a lone vaper but I think there's more locally, they just hide it must be? I live in a really small town, but so far I've only seen a cashier at the smoke shop vape other than me. Not a biggie I guess, I'm still doing it. I like it too much already to give up. My kids are so excited that I'm quitting smoking,
I may drop down to 18 mg, I found today that it was making me cough, when I inhaled. I'm assuming it must be too strong now that I have the technique down more. Going down a notch can't be a bad thing.

It has become quite harsh today, and tonight I have a bit of heartburn from it. I think when I refill I'll use my 18 mg and grab some 12 the next time I go over. What may I ask is sub ohm?

That's in reference to coils, more than likely the coil you using is somewhere around 1.0 to as high as 2.something. Sub ohming is using a coil that is less than 1 ohm. Sub ohm equals more intense vapor, stay where you are and get used to it, and when the time is right, explore sub ohming. Because of it's intensity most people use 3mg or 6mg because of much more vapor production. 24mg would put me in coronary care.;)

I considered myself a pretty heavy smoker, that's why I went for the 24mg at first. I did buy some 18 mg the first day, but felt it wasn't strong enough as I was still fighting the urge to light up every so often. With the 24 mg it's less of an urge. I guess I shouldn't knock it, going from 40 cigs to 3-5 is a real milestone and for only 3 days in to be doing this well, I think I'll give me a pat on the back. The patch was much harder than this, hence I went back to smoking. With vaping, I don't want to. This is so cool!

Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on finding an answer to your smoking. When I put the stinkies down I started with a 12mg. I am down to a 3mg but I also sub ohm. You will get there, poke around on the forum and ask questions. I have learned so much here in the 3 months I have been here and the people are awesome too. Stick around and enjoy the show.

Welcome to VU and congrats!!!!!
There's no magic to how and when to step down, you kind of have to figure that out for yourself since everyone is different. I'll give you my experience since that's all i can say with certainty. I was a 2pad smoker on Marlboro lights. I started at 18mg and 2weeks later went to 12. I was at 12mg for about 6 months then went to 6mg, and stayed there for about a year. Then finally to 3mg then zero. Sometimes the step down was due to equipment. Switching to 3mg coincide with the advent of me using higher power and more vapor producing gear. The nicotine is what is giving you the throat hit so more vapor makes a high nic vape more harsh. Your body will tell you when you need to step down based on your cravings.

Congrats again and best of luck!!!!

Well since some of you all were talking about sub ohms I was kind of looking at this http://www.myvaporstore.com/Kangertech-SUBVOD-Starter-Kit-p/krsv10.htm All the reviews I read/watched said it's a really good kit for beginners and those who are trying to quit the cigs. I'm more concerned about safety than anything, I've read and seen some pretty scary stuff on vaping. Most of the reviews are nothing but good, so I have to go with majority rules.

I stepped down today to 18 mg of nicotine, and it drove me nuts! Well, not actually nuts, but I craved a smoke more often than I had been on the 24mg. It's been kind of nice not having the cravings while doing this.
I'd also like to thank you all for the warm welcome and all the advice and encouragement, it really helps!

Safety wise that's good, but if you were already wanting to get into subohm stuff, there are some more flexible options
This kit has a mouth to lung coil and subohm coil so you can vape both styles in the one kit and use the mod for other tanks later.
http://www.myvaporstore.com/Kangertech-SUBOX-Mini-Starter-Kit-Black-p/krsbk1.htm

This kit offers the same but also has a more powerful mod and the ability to try temp control of you wanted.
http://www.myvaporstore.com/Kangertech-TOPBOX-Mini-Kit-p/krsz020.htm

There's some other options out there, I would suggest that you not rush though. If you're happy with what you have enjoy it and see what else you want to try and get a better idea so that we can focus in on something that you will enjoy for a while. So many styles of vaping out there now that there is no one size fits all anymore.

That's ok, I could see this turning into a passion! I bought a new flavor juice last night Raspberry Limeade made by Criss Cross, OMG!!! Everytime I take a hit, I just go mmmmmmmmm! My husband thinks I've lost my mind! Now I'm anxious to try more flavors, but right now, that's my flavor of choice. YUM.

I am pretty happy with my set up, I keep forgetting I've been at this for less than a week. I found out that a coworker vapes also, I was starting to think I was the only one in my county that did. I guess I'll just settle in and vape on!

Welcome!! I started on 24mg too and found after a few weeks that it made my stomach hurt (very much like the heartburn you describe) so dropped to 18, then straight to 6 and probably going to have to drop to 3mg soon.

I agree with everyone who said go with what works for you. I have all kinds of mods and tanks and rdas etc etc tons of gear but find I go back to my eleaf Istick 50w with an isub tank most of the time because that's what works best for me.

Yes, the stomach ache! Uggh! I was starting to think I O D'd or something. I tend to vape pretty heavy in the evening. I'm not sure why yet, sometimes I think it's just the flavor of the juice lol!

Probably because your pen is waining on power so it's making a little less vapor and you're body is trying to compensate but overdoing it.
I had a similar issue which is what had me go to a variable voltage mod.
Some pens just fire what the battery has in it so as the day goes on its putting out less power. Less power in this case = less vapor. Variable wattage or variable voltage mods put out the same amount of power until they no longer can. So you get the same hit every time.

To solve the issue, either get another pen or another unit and alternate keeping the one not in use on the charger, so that you always have a fresh battery.

My little battery is only 650 mhz, and I do notice that the longer I vape, the less vapor I get, I wondered if that was it. They have an ego style downtown that is an 1100 mhz, would that be better?

I do the same. I used to smoke too and of course I can't smoke at work so I tended to chain smoke when I got home or was off. Now I chain vape. Which is definitely better. I actually have a few 0mg bottles of my fave juices I can vape if I'm sucking in too much nicotine. I need to have something to do with my hands/ when watching tv/ before or after meals. Typical heavy smoking times.

It would definitely last longer. The last pen type I had cost around $18 and I got it from Discount Vapers. I still have it, but it doesn't get used much anymore, LOL

I just peeked... couldn't find it listed anymore, but there are lots of options available and lots of reputable online vendors, too.

That was a good reason for dropping my level of nicotine. I couldn't stop vaping wonderful flavors!

Exactly! I do the same thing! What's nice is now most of the time I crave a vape, instead of a cigarette! Gotta have my juice! At night though, when I'm doing my college work online or watching TV, I used to chain smoke, now I chain vape. I went to bed the other night not feeling quite so hot. Today has been good though, I'm going to stick with the 18 mg and settle in I think.

Well today, I was heading back to work on my lunch hour, vaping away and my battery ran out! :( So I made up my mind I was going to go get a spare and while I was at it, it might as well be a bigger one. The suggested to me a Vision Spinner 2. I love it! I have it set at 3.8 volts and what a better vape it is already! I'm very happy with it.
