I have a habit of recharging my 18650s when they're at about half their life. Is this bad for my batteries?

What cells? Half max charge voltage of 4.2V? I would expect overall cycle life (e.g. LG HG2 300 cycles @ 4A charge to 4.2V + 10A discharge to 2.5V or 200 cycles @ 4A charge to 4.2V + 20A discharge to 2.5V with a capacity ≥ 2100 mAh) to be greater when charging at 3.35V than when charging at the typical cut off voltage of 2.5V. Half nominal capacity? Again, I would expect overall cycle life to be greater when charging at half of nominal capacity than when charging at one-fourth of nominal capacity.

I really want some Sony vtc4 but I heard they don't make them anymore and I'm scared if I get some offline they will be fakes. I heard they're the only true 30amp, which would be great because I use a parallel mech box

Buy your batteries from Orbtronic, Illumn, RTDVapor or Liionwholesale. If they advertise VTC4s, you get VTC4s. Liion is supposed to stop carrying them, or so Jon said, but the others should have them in stock. You are correct to worry, there are some bad ones out there. But those folks are reputable vendors.
