Scientists have figured out the science behind ghosts.
Or rather, "ghosts," since the experiments conducted by these teams concluded that whenever one feels "spooked," "haunted," or a "chill down their spine," they're actually just sensing an altered perception of their own body.
Using a robot that mimicked a blindfolded test subject's movements and lightly touched them in the back when they moved, researchers from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology were able to accurately simulate the feelings and sensations typically reported in "supernatural" encounters. Their ability to re-create these sensations were so accurate that many test subjects felt another presence in the room besides their own.
