It's so rare to read an event comic that actually lives up to the hype machine and tells a gripping story. Secret Wars succeeds where most of these projects fail because of two factors. One, it pairs a writer skilled at working with larger-than-life conflicts and concepts with an artist skilled at bringing his vision to life. Two, it remains wholly self-contained while still offering a broad canvas on which any number of tie-in comics can explore. The series continues to fire on all cylinders as it moves into its third chapter.
