So I just got my xmas present, a serial 18650 mechanical box mod, and boy is it awesome. Maybe a bit too awesome.

After inspecting it, I put in a couple batteries and screwed on my plume veil. It had a dual coil build using 24ga kanthal running around .2ohm(which was my all day build with a single 18650 and parallel 18650s). I hit the button and it fried my soaken wet cotton, holy shit!!!! I need some higher ohms maybe. I then made a 26ga build at around .6 ohm. Its better, but still crankin like a mofo and its killin the flavor of my juice. Clouds? OH YEA Flavor? not like normal.
This would be great for a cloud competition, but I like flavor for an all day vape.

My questions are:
1. What kind of build is appropriate for flavor in a serial battery mod? Im just looking for a decent starting point.
2. In a serial mechanical box, would flipping either battery make it into a parallel box? Seems like it would, but Ive been wrong before.

This is not set in stone but, for a series build, rule of thumb is make it 4 times higher ohm that what you normally vape on your parallel build. So if you normally like a .2 start at a .8 for series. This is just a suggestion from personal experience.

Crazy, but the logic seems sound. The .6 build is pretty hot for me, so .8 might be the way to go. Ill try it out later tonight.

So what about the battery flip? If flipping a battery would cause both to run in parallel I might try it. But as I dont want to hard short my batteries or fry the mosfet, im being cautious.

The wiring is different for a series and a parallel build. You will blow your mod if you try and run a series box in parallel and vice versa. Actually the batteries will probably fry first and the contacts will fry fast.

At 8 volts (series with voltage drop) you were pushing 40 amps and 320 watts. To be direct, your .2 Ohm build at 8V/320 watts was just fucking dangerous, for your atty and your batteries, and you too. .8 Ohms will give you 80 watts and a 10 amp draw at 8 volts.

I'm surprised your atty didn't burst into flames. Stick with the batteries in parallel. Builds from .17 to .5 will make plenty of clouds with flavor

Think ya misplaced a decimal. ;)

So you meant .17 even after chastising him for using a .2 ohm build?

You are right to speak in a serious tone, as it is a serious matter. But it didnt take long for me to notice. Chastise away, stupid is as stupid does, and I did stupid. ThE double voltage was something I expected, but didnt understand the effects of. But its all good now.

Believe me, it never had a chance to burst into flames. I think the first pull on my old .2ohm build lasted less than one full second. The taste of wet cotton 'insta-frying' was a screaming sign that this mod was pushing waaaaaayyyyyyy more power than ive ever pushed before..
So like any intelligent vaper, i RAN to my usual ohm, volt, watt, amp calculator and found what you just showed. So, I toned it down, by dialing the ohms up.

What the calculator showed me was very similar to what Wabah58 said, to quadruple your ohms to get a similar vape(mine are tripled for now). So, right now im puffin safe with a dual 26ga, 2.7mm,12 wraps, at .6ohm. This yields a much more conservative 14amps, 117.6watts @ .6ohm, 8.4volts. The flavor is through the freakin roof and I feel like the fog machine at a rave. Its a little too much for me, but I'll get it right tomorrow. Im taking two second pulls and chuckin out plumes.

BOOMSHAKALAKA! Am I allowed to say fucking awesome??

edit: [email protected] seems to work much better than [email protected]. Heats up and cools a bit quicker, and doesnt seem to be killing the flavor.

Series is - + - +. Flipping a battery would be - + + -. It should cause the mod to do nothing. You would have to rewire it to make it a parallel box.
Are you using a matched pair of batteries?
