Should I vape?

Im 18 and have smoked very little cigs. Maybe a whole pack in the span of 3 months. I am definitely not addicted. I can go months without smoking. The thing is, I think vaping looks really interesting with the coil building and whatnot, but I'm afraid it's bad for you. I've read a lot of controversy on whether vamping is good or bad. Help! Should I get one?

99% of us are here because we've accomplished a great thing in quitting smoking. We've conquered a demon that could very well have killed us, as it has so many before us. We didn't do it to have a new hobby or to look "cool." The fact that has become a hobby to some of us is incidental.
Please don't ever put anything unnecessary into your lungs. That part isn't cool. The majority here got ourselves into a nasty habit and we found a healthy way out, but please reconsider putting anything into a healthy set of lungs that isn't necessary.

I love the results of this thread, anf the advice given to the OP... it displays the very real, sincere, and responsible attitudes that make up the vaping community...a pity the public health community is more concerned with saving their power and their jobs than they are in the health of another human being.

Only reason I vape is because it helped me quit cigarettes.

Late to the party on this one... And stoked, and also not surprised, at the feedback you received. Wise people here.

This thread needs a follow up thread...
WHO SHOULD VAPE??

Vape On

I did a little research and found out that there are a few e juice brands that are Diacetyl, Acetoin and Acetyl Propionyl Free. If I were to vape, it would be at 0 mg. I really want one, and I honestly appreciate all the advice to not do it, but is it really that bad? Sorry if I sound a little annoying.

No one knows. The forum experts and advocates say it is perfectly safe, so I see no reason for someone not to try it. Many here vape as a hobby anyway...

You're not annoying.

But re read this I think :

Kinda thought you'd make another appearance. You'll do as you choose, no matter what any of us tell you. The majority here think it's worth not risking young healthy lungs. If you like the hobby side of it, look into furthering your education in a field that allows you to create. There are far more things you can do with your time that would make a bigger impact on your future (not to mention your wallet) than taking a chance of the unknown aspects of vaping, just because coil building looks interesting.

yeah unfortuneatly it's been co-opted by twats
People are going to do what they are going to do. I'd say the majority of new vapers now are never smokers.
I see lines of cars at McDonalds every time I drive by one- a habit far more unhealthy than vaping, and having seen pictures and videos of vape events, eating fast food is a hobby of many vapers,,,

No one knows exactly how bad it is - we're mostly a bunch of former smokers voluntarily guinea-pigging this whole experiment because we believe we're making a better choice than smoking.

Even if you avoid all of the cautionary ingredients we're aware of today, inhaling something that's not pure, clean air is probably worse for you than inhaling nothing but air. If you choose to vape and accept the fact that you're doing something that poses risks (the extent of which we're not currently aware of) that's your choice. I personally knew smoking was worse than not smoking when I started, but I mad a bad decision anyway...

I agree most of us are ex smokers and vaping has been the exit from a nasty addiction. If you are going to smoke analog cigarettes, just once in a while then sure vape just once in a while. Just beware at this point you would be getting into it as a hobby and so educate yourself on what you're vaping and get your juice from a reputable source, hopefully down the road if you needed to kick your hobby it wouldn't be any hassle.

The best way to make sure you aren't vaping diacetyl or other diketones is to make your own ejuice and choose the flavors carefully. There *are* brands that can be bought that don't contain them, but it's kind of a crap-shoot.

My advice would be... if you don't smoke, there's really no need to vape. *Unless* you are *strongly tempted* to smoke, in which case, vaping is safer, no matter what's in the ejuice. But if you don't need vaping to either quit or prevent smoking... why waste your money and your time? There's lots better stuff to spend money and waste time on. The only thing cool about vaping is how much better it is than smoking.

Nothing in life is 100% safe; getting up out of bed in the morning carries some risk, or even just staying in bed -- there is risk everywhere, all the time. But the best part of wisdom is to avoid *unnecessary* risks. If you're a risk junkie, independently wealthy, and have absolutely nothing better to do, I guess vaping is as good a time and money waster as anything else, and better than a lot. But, just... why bother?
