silica wick with sub ohm coils

Can you use silica wick with a low build ?(dual twisted 26g N80 8 wraps at 2.5mm ID. .22 ohm) ... Running it in a bellus. I was thinking of using a couple strands of the skinny silica rope provided With some new attys. They usually have a pre wrapped protank style coil around them, of course I would be taking that off. I'm looking for a change from cotton with a bit less maintenance. I like the idea of being able to do a simple dry burn to clean. But my main concern is would it work well with that hot (low resistance) of a build?

Silica doesn't hold much liquid. The only way I could avoid dry hits was to add distilled water to the juice. I got good results with 25/65/10 pg vg water. Also keep in mind that you might need to add more flavoring to the mix. I was a long time silica user. I switched to cotton, because I wanted bigger clouds without adding water to the juice :)

I would recommend against that, as every single time I've tried Silica in a sub-ohm build, it burns right through after a couple pulls . I've tried more/less Silica, different builds, even different RDAs, Silica just doesn't seem to like sub-ohm, or just doesn't like me, I unno . If your determined to use Silica, at the very least I'd say keep it above 0.5ohm and keep it saturated ASF. But hey, maybe I'm wrong and just have really bad luck with Silica, hopefully you can get it to work out for you :)

I appreciate the advice. I think I might end up trying it in my kayfuns, which I run at .8 to 1.2.

How would silica stop the tank from leaking?

Not 100% clear on what you're trying to do. Keep that in mind when reading this:

In my experience, silica is way harder to work with than cotton, in every aspect. Cotton also soaks up liquid better and has a more neutral taste.

For rebuilding disposable attys, silica worked OK for quick flavor wicks, but even then, I switched solely to twisted/hollow Ekowool. I finally got tired of spending the money on it, and converted all my rebuilds to cotton.
