Smok Treebox mini

First thoughts on this 75w tc device.
It arrived in a nice wood box, a beautiful red Brazilian zebra wood single 18650 mod. This mod is capable of temperature control of nickel, titanium, and stainless steel. I have tried all three and they all work. I prefer the titanium coils the best with taste and how fast they heat. The workmanship is steller for a mod made from wood no rattling buttons or battery door. The screen is easily visible and can be rotated in the menu. At first I was having a problem with the temperature protection kicking on to fast, but 3 clicks of the power button to the main menu and this mod allows you to adjust the tcr which fixed my problem. In the menu you can switch from watts mode to temp mode, switch between coil materials, and then choose single or dual coil. Choose soft, normal or hard hit, adjust screen time out, access your puff counter, rotate screen, even adjust initial resistance of your coil. You have the option to power the unit off as well. I have been using it 2 days, it's a new product from smok so far I love it, it's light weight fits well in my hand and pocket gives great flavor and provides ok battery life ( used to a dual 18650) I haven't heard much discussion about this device yet and think not many people own or even know about it yet. So any owners out there? Or anyone have questions about this device just ask

I really like the look of the treebox and never had a wood mod, but what holds me back is it being wood, if get a juice leak, is it going to ruin the finish?

If Temp control is like the xcube2, which I believe it is, it will though as much power as it can to preheat the coil. Since there is no way to set a max wattage like on other devices like the dna200, sxmini or evic, it makes for some interesting times finding the best setting. Rather than adjusting the tcr to prevent hitting temp mode, try setting it in soft mode. That makes the device not through so much power initially. Problem with adjusting tcr to compensate for this feature is that now you are going much hotter than you think. So for example, the device with think that its at 450 degrees, but its really at 500 or higher.

I was seriously considering this device since I like the wood, but correct me if Im wrong, it doesn't have upgradable firmware.

I also have an ijoy asolo and you set the wattage and then put it in temp mode, (for the most part, it also has to "learn" but I won't go there) I also have a cloupor Gt which you set the joules. I have tried setting it in soft mode and run it either sort or normal. But for example my ss coil would hit temp protection without even hitting before I adjusted tcr. It was unusable, good thing they had that setting. I just adjust it down as far as I can with out taking away from the hit to much. As long as its keeping my cotton from burning I'm happy. This is called the treebox mini, so possibly going to have a full size one in the future? Maybe they will stick a usb port on it? This one isn't upgradeable but for the price and style I would buy one now and upgrade later, I know people would buy that up in a second locally.

I thought about it but I've made the decision that I'm not buying any mod that isn't firmware upgradable. Been burnt too many times by devices where they released it, there were bugs or other things, they released a second or third version and I'm stuck with the crappy first version. Happened to me with the dna40, invader mini and the last straw was the evic vt. Fortunately, vapor shark changed out my dna40 and I got lucky with the invader mini because they sent me the wrong color so by the time my replacement came, version 2 was out, but I got stuck with the evic.

There are 2 many devices under $70 they offer firmware upgrades. I don't even care if the firmware updates only fix problems but not add features. I'm fine with them giving me a device that only does certain wires and then having a new version 3 or 4 months later that does other wires, but I don't want one that doesn't function right because they put the wrong tcr value on the wire type.

The real problem is that technology is moving so fast these companies are trying to release new mods to keep up, they're not even beta testing anymore. I mean look at TC devices. In less than a year we've gone from 40 watts to 200 watts and from only having ni200 to having our choice of 4 different wire types.

The Treebox is terrible. First, I will say that the wood is very nice. It's a good-looking mod, but that's about it. It's basically a Koopor Mini that goes to 75W and has a wooden body. Battery life is terrible. I get about 30 minutes at 50W or so. Temperature control does not work at all in SS mode. Changing the temperature seems to only change the wattage that it's firing at, and the temperature that it displays hovers between 100 and 200°F, even though it's much higher than that. It also doesn't prevent burning. If your standard of a working TC mod is that it fires a coil, then sure, SS TC "works". It just doesn't do anything that wattage mode wouldn't do already.

Haven't tried Titanium. Nickel works, but the temperature is about 100° off. I got dry cotton to singe at about 300°F. You can play with the coefficients, but I feel like it should all be calibrated correctly out of the box. Changing of temperature coefficients, to me, is a cop-out. They can't be bothered to get TC down correctly, so they leave it up to the user to get it working.

Last, and this is pretty important, the battery heats up. Give it a good 3-5 puffs and you'll feel the heat coming out of the mod. And no, it's not the atty. I've used a 0.5Ω Atlantis head at 30W, and the battery still heats up. Tested this out with multiple batteries, all between 20 and 30A continuous.

Don't waste your money on this, and don't be tempted by the wood. It's not worth it.

Wow I must disagree with some of those statements. I have to say I'm using ti wire in tc mode and it works great used a tank and a rda and it didn't singe my cotton. Also I'm using 3000 mah 30a Samsung batteries and I swear I just took 6 puffs with my fingers on the battery battery door off and it's still cool to the touch. Also I can't complain about battery life as one of these batteries lasts me close to 2 days use. Haven't use ss mode much yet but im sure it can be tweaked to work great... That's what's so nice about this mod is you can adjust everything right there. Twitch, you would really hate the dna200 chip since you have to use software to adjust the tcr and I have heard of people having to adjust it right out of the box.... Or was that the xcube 2? Either way it's easy to adjust on the treebox I don't see how you can complain for a $50 tc mod that will push 75w

Temperature control is finicky, thats why companies are adding the ability to adjust TCR. Its not a cop-out. Every brand wire is different and has a different TCR. Take Titanium for example. The TCR for Sweetvapes is .00339, where as spidersilk comes in somewhere around .00352. Stainless Steel is even more finicky. There are so many variations of stainless steel out there that its impossible to have one straight TCR value. There's a major difference between 304, 316, 316L and 317. Add to that is the fact that the TCR for stainless steel is so small, it takes a lot of adjusting to get it to work right.

I have the SX mini M class, Xcube 2 and 2 dna200 mods and none of them work perfectly with Stainless Steel. In fact, when using Stainless Steel for TC, I prefer to use it on the Xcube 2 more than the other devices because of the ease of changing the TCR. The SX mini allows you to adjust it on the mod, but you have to go into the menu and scroll through everything and with the DNA200, you have to hook up to escribe. Its much easier to adjust on the Smok devices and I've found that the TCR changes with stainless steel as you use the coil.

I'm just saying there are much better mods out there in the same price range. I understand that you might have to adjust the TCR for different types of stainless steel, but you shouldn't have to at this point for Ni200. That's not the issue with SS on this mod though. No matter how you set it, the temperature displayed on the screen stays between 100°F and 200°F. When you adjust your temperature setting, the output wattage increases, the heat increases (based on taste), but the displayed temperature is still between 100°F and 200°F. Plus, it doesn't prevent burning. That's my main issue here, along with the battery heat. If you can't actually do SS temp control, then don't advertise that it can, because it's broken. And for the price, the Ni200 (and I'll assume Ti as well, although I haven't tried it) work for the most part as long as you don't expect to get accurate temperature readings out of the box.

And the DNA200 does work with nickel just fine without plugging into Escribe. Dry cotton starts to turn slightly brown around 400 degrees, just as it should. I'm glad you're enjoying your Treebox, I really am. But I'm sitting here with an eVic VTC Mini, and I get at least 3x the battery life with same batteries and the TC is much more accurate. Sure, it costs a bit more, but to me it's worth it to have everything working reliably and not having battery heat. To each their own. I've just seen so many glowing reviews for the Treebox, and I just don't think it deserves all the high praise.

TC temperatures are inaccurate. I agree that SS for TC doesn't work worth shit. Does fine in Ni200. The batt life is HORRIBLE!! A fresh batt lasts about 10-11 minutes of actual vaping time- at least two batteries are used a day and sometimes three. The non upgradeable FW ought to have steered me away but truth be told, I got mine at a steep discount (had discount points at GB) and I liked the enclosure enough to buy it just for re-chipping.

• No user TCR presets
• No stealth mode
• Small screen display
• Short battery run time
• All buttons rattle
• Menu uses indistinct pictographs, not intuitive
• Does not feel good in hand, side of mod opposite controls has sharp radii and it’s 28mm thick as opposed to 22-23mm for many mods
• Wood finish not perfect
• No onboard charging
• No actual battery voltage

I agree. I bought this at a discounted price because it was so good looking. It's not my every day mod, more like my back up. I hate that it doesn't have onboard charging and runs through 2-3 batteries a day when I do decide to use it. It never reads voltage, the icons on the screen are weird. My buttons don't rattle though and my unit is gorgeous It's super light and easier for me to carry . But I wouldn't recommend it.

I got around to measuring the voltage of a depleted battery that came out of my TB. It quits firing at 3.5V- so that's why the battery seems to run out so quickly. Most other mods use a lot more of the battery charge- my VTC Mini stops firing at 3.2V. Now, 0.3V doesn't sound like much, but it makes a big difference in run/vape time.
