Snap crackle and pop

I have a brand new RX Mini with a brand new Aspire Nautilus X tank. Filled tank, let it sit to soak in. Wattage is set at 16 watts, 4.90 volts. Temp is 200F.

When I fire it I get a lot of crackling, popping, and sometimes spits back. Juice is Mad Vapes Candy Cane 80/20.

This is my first real mod. Was using an eleaf iStick 20 same juice with a pen type tank. That works great at 7 watts.

What am I doing wrong with the RX Mini?

Welcome David, You seem to have it set right, when filling the tank, could you have gotten a little juice into the middle of the coil causing a little flooding?

The nautilus X is a bit finnicky with flooding. When you fill it, fill it and immediately seat the top cap gently. Take a puff and tighten 1/2 turn, repeat until the seal is fully seated. If you tighten 100% straight out of the gate the coil floods.

I fought this with my nautilus when I first got it. For now, unscrew the tank from the mod, and blow through the mouthpiece with the air slots wide open. All of the excess juice should blow out of the top intakes. wipe it off and try puffing on it.

One other thing, ignore temp control with that tank, the coils are all kanthal which dont support TC on most mods. Also, stick with the 1.8 ohm coils, the 1,5s arent very good.

Hi and welcome!

The coils for this tank are 1.5ohm U Style kanthal coils and it is recommend to be vaped between 14 and 22 watts. The image below showcases the new 1.5ohm kanthal coil head.

  • 1.5ohm Kanthal U-Coil
  • Recommend WAccepts 1.5Ω or 1.8Ω Aspire U-Tech coils (ships w/ 2 x 1.5Ω coils)attage Range: 14-22 Watts
Do not use the Kanthal coils in Temp mode- Kanthal coils are to be used in wattage mode only.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes I have the 1.8 coil in. Didn't try the half turn on the cap trick yet though. Mod is in VW mode, still crackling when fired. Tried a few short hits, got I tiny bit of flavor but no vape at all. Watts are at 16 and volts show 4.90 got one pop also, didn't taste very good lol.

Did you watch the video? That guy blows down the center tube and wipes juice off the air slots with a towel- liquid is flooding down the coil. Maybe try not filling so high, try a qtip down the center tube to wipe up eliquid, but blowing down the center tube will clear the liquid better. Maybe try another coil, you are not going to see very much vapor at 16w, try raising the watts a little more, maybe 16w is not enough to vaporize the juice?
Wipe off the 510 connection on your mod with a paper towel and a qtip, maybe you got some juice in there?
Your juice- what is the 80, vg or pg? If it 80vg that is too thick for those coils. If it is 80pg than it could be too thin- maybe try a 50pg/50vg and see if that helps.
Look at your instruction booklet- maybe there are instructions on this problem.
Go to a vape shop for help, try other liquids there- being a newbie a vape shop could show you what is wrong and easier for them to show you.

Yeah, the spitting is the coil being flooded. Blow into the mouthpiece with the airflow wide open, wipe the juice off the top of the tank.

On the note of juice thickness, ive run 80vg and 50/50 in mine with no issues.
