A new edit of The Batman trailer made by comedian and filmmaker Matthew Highton sees Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne face off against Jim Carrey's Riddler - and it kind of works.
The impressive and amusing edit pieces together footage from the official trailer for the film and appearances from Jim Carrey's Riddler in Batman Forever. You can watch it below:
While footage of Carrey's villain donning green spandex throughout the edited clip offers a stark difference to the gritty tone that Matt Reeves' upcoming take on the franchise appears to be moving toward, the comedian's intermittent vocal lines in the clip, along with the character's range of quirky and absurd outbursts surprisingly transition over well.
Credit has to be given to Highton's edits across the clip, which nicely bring together scenes from both films to produce "call and response" moments between Pattinson's Batman and Carey's Riddler. While mocked-up interactions between the two characters are fun, the trailer also manages to pull together scenes from across the two contrasting titles in a way that just about maintains a level of believable continuity.
Matt Reeves' The Batman was originally set to release in cinemas last year. However, setbacks due to the pandemic pushed back its release date to October 2021 and then again to March 2022.
The role of The Riddler in the film will be fulfilled by Paul Dano. The American actor, who is best known for his roles in There Will Be Blood, 12 Years a Slave, and the Showtime series Escape at Dannemora, will be joined alongside a range of other high profile actors including Andy Serkis (Alfred Pennyworth), Zoë Kravitz (Selina Kyle a.k.a Catwoman) and Colin Farrell (Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a The Penguin).
